Just wondering what year everyones patriot is that suffers from problems with knocking noises etc from the front or rear of the car. So far I have had 2 new sets of bushes fitted to the front anti role bar and also a new shock absorber on the front drivers side.

i hear bad noise of metal to metal from left driver side. I found the ball joint of the control arm damaged. Here, the whole control arm is about 400 USD. I did not do too much off road, so i don't understand why it is broken. Any way, i'll try to fit another ball joint instead.

Also i consider it a bad design and not good for offroad. I think that these control arms are designed for better stability rather than good off road capability.

Conclusion: Jeep Patriot has highway suspension design

how i think it is better

knocking from rear!

Recently, I have noticed on cold startup, a weird knock from the rear. It just knocks once. Only upon startup. Mostly on a cold startup. I am not just meaning a cold day, I mean after the Jeep sits for few hours. Anyone else have this problem?

All that you have written above means bad news. Comparing with my oldest car still running, a 2003 skoda octavia with 200k km. In 7 years and 200k km i had to change a few tie rods, a few sway bar bushings, and only once two ball joints.

I'm having 47k km on my pat now, and the only problem seems to be the ball joint from the control arm, but i'm a bit scared to go to service, what if they find out i have to change a lot more?

Would just like to update everyone on the problem with knocking noises from the patriot, have just had it confirmed from another dealer they are having severe issues with both the patriot & the PT Cruiser cars that are travelling over sleeping policemen or speed bumps, where it is knocking the anti-role bar bushes out of shape and that is the cause of the knocking noise and this will also cause uneven tire wear very rapidly. And he told me this before I even told him the issue with the car.

I purchased new in May of 2009. Yes, it is an 08 and now I am over 20K and I have yet to have any weird noises. Just went I hit a pothole, haha damn things are everywhere. I am sure I will have tie rod problems soon.

I have a single knocking sound from the front right if i drive over speed bumps.
Curios thing is that it knocks sometimes a second later once i passed the bumps already.

BUSHES

I've recently had the bushes replaced on my 2008 '58' Patriot. The number of similar posts on this subject don't inspire confidence and I've got a feeling I will be getting them replaced once again before my warranty is up.

Who ever invented speed humps and sleeping policemen should be stuck to the road as a human traffic calming measure - I promise I'll only drive over them slowly!! :censored:

Well Just pulled my bushings off and they look like crap. I sprayed with silacone, and cleaned them up. just to help untill I can find a good set not the jeep part that I feel will fail soon after anyways. Here are the Numbers on the back of the bushings.

What I don't understand is the cost of these are so cheep why would jeep put cheep stuff in?????
any ways called my local auto parts store and he said they don't stock them yet and Canadian tire also.
Any ways just some info and thoughts

I have been doing a little bit of experimenting with different driving conditions regarding this knocking noise from the front of my patriot, and just wondering if other people can try it out also and report there findings on this thread. What I done was when going over the road bumps where I usually get the noise and it was most noticeable at speeds between 5 to 15 mph without my foot on the brake you get all sorts of noises from the front of the car, but when you do it again with your foot on the brake very slightly applying brake pressure I did not get any knocking noises and I attempted this a few times and got the same results every time. This car is weird lol

Banging noise is from Ball Joints

It's the Ball joints. Mine had been doing it for a while, took it to the shop and they though it was the swaybar links and bushings, so they replaced those. Well after that it only got worse. Took it back again, and they discovered that the ball joints were falling out.

Had to buy new control arms with Ball Joints.

Now everything is tight, and no noises at all

I have had my 2010 Patriot (currently 1500 miles) in twice for the front metal on metal knocking. They replaced the bushings the second time. The problem was the bushings were sliding over and not functioning.

I still have the noise when I go over speed bumps. Anyone know any more information on this problem?

Q: are you sure that those replacement really fit on it?maybe its not compatible.

Yea they said they were replaced with factory parts. It sounds like the bushing slides over when it is exteneded on a speed bump. I think it is an engineering design issue.

Another problem I am having is the brake pads are rubbing when going to a stop (approx-45-0mph). I took it in for that and they refinished the brake pads and rotors. They said the sound is from a chemical that they use on the brake pads during storage to prevent cracking.

Has anyone had problems with this with their new Pat?
