Hi Everyone!!

I just got a leftover new 2011 Patriot Sport for the wife. The only options are the 2.4 l engine upgrade, 17" wheels&tires and the bluetooth radio.

I wonder if there are any typical issues with the vehicle or anything to pay attention to or if Patriots are generally reliable.. Checked cars.msn.com reliability ratings before buying it and they are only available for 2007 and 2008 and they look pretty good.. Is there anything to look for or to monitor? So far, we already put 1500 miles on the Patriot including a 500 mile drive when I picked it up in Georgia (drove it home to Florida)..

Today my wife drove it back from the mall and when she drove over a railroad crossing, the CVT transmission jumped from drive into neutral.. Has this happened to anyone?? She put it back into drive and everything was fine again but I wonder if this is something that has happened to others before?

Welcome! I read the title to your thread and all I could think was "Good trade" lol.

Mine has never shifted on it's own like that, but I don't have the Auto-Stick either, so I'm not sure, but it's not something I've heard of before either.

The only things to look out for are, wheel bearings and front end parts. The good news is, you can buy better aftermarket parts from Moog, with lifetime warranties. My advice would be to buy those parts over the next year or so and have them on hand, then when one thing goes in the front end, replace them all with the Moog parts, and get the alignment, and be done.

I have 83K on my 08.

Thanks for the advice.. I hope that the issue with the transmission popping out from drive into neutral was a one time thing. I can get those parts to upgrade.. Looking at the suspension, it seems easy enough to work on.. I've built a race car before, so that shouldn't be something that I can't do :D

Welcome from Daytona Beach. I just got my wife a 2012 Patriot Sport 2.4 FWD. The wife loves it and has been hitting all the malls in the area. No problem to report in 3 weeks and 2600 miles. Yes we drive a lot.....

Good luck with it, prays for many safe miles ahead. JIM

im wondering if she bumped the shifter into neutral. Its very easy to push it forward. i never heard of this happening but am also wondering if its possible for an automatic to slip gears. i would take it to the shop and have them look at the belts.

I know no has visited this post in a bit but I had a similar experience today... I was out in the woods going to shoot my .22. Just got it today and wanted to see how it handled. Did nicely by the way. Love a bolt action.

Anyway it was of coarse muddy and rutted up... Patriot went through all of it without a problem. On my way out as I was going through some really low places, my front end made contact with the ground. Right where the skid plate stops at the front. I had both hands on the wheel. As soon as it hit(no damage of any kind) I took my foot off the gas and put it on the brake. Once I sat there for a moment I pressed the gas again. I was in neutral!!! Stick was in drive but I was in neutral!!! Shifted to reverse and we're back on track. It was weird.

I just remember this post and thought I'd give a second occasion of this happening!
