I agree........but do you think there will be a huge difference drivetrain wise between the 2. There isn't a massive difference between the FDI and FDII systems, I will be test driving one of these though, no the issue is to try and figure out how to get it offroad during the test drive.

I'd take the base Cherokee over that for the same price point.
Who knows .... looking to upgrade the Hyundai this year!

I found the dealer sticker from the window of my pat when it was sold(to the original owner) and it came in at $27000(CAD). I haven't compared the prices recently but it's likely the patriot came down in price over the years and the new jeep will too. That being said, Patriot all the way! It looks like a Cherokee and I love it.

I think a bare-bones 2WD 5-spd Patriot with the 2.0L back in 2007 would have cost $18k-$19k USD. They seem to have made a couple improvements, done some cost-cutting or something in just the right places, to bring that same 2.0L 2WD 5-spd down to $14k-$16k USD for 2014-2015. Those are the prices I recall seeing anyways.

Pricewise, there is actually a huge difference in the amenities you get between a Wrangler and a Renegade. I am looking at purchasing one or the other for my daughter when the Renegade comes out. After consulting her friends at school she is leaning towards the Wrangler. However she prefers the way my Patriot drives compared to my wife's JKU. After she can test drive both she can pick which she prefers. Even though Wranglers are rudimentary, they are a cult vehicle with a lot of cool factor.

The pricing on the Renegade does seem a bit high to me, but we have to remember that Jeep doesn't think this is going to be a big seller in the US anyway so they are probably figuring that a higher price maximized profits while creating an exclusivity factor for the vehicle given that supply won't be as high as it is for other vehicles. An article I saw when the Renegade was first announced suggested that Jeep was only going to allocate maybe 50,000 Renegades/year to the US market. The Patriot sold 95,000 last year here while Wrangler, Cherokee, and Grand Cherokee sold about 175,000 each.

I paid about 22k for mine, otd. But it had more options than I originally wanted, but I was able to live with them.
FDII
Power options group
A/C
uConnect 230 + bluetooth + usb connectivity
upgraded floor mats (cloth over the plastic, but got the plastic ones too)
couple of other things. I was looking for as base model as possible, but the only one I found the dealer was NOT willing to negotiate on price at all, and so I got mine for about the same price.

I came close to buying a new 2013 Patriot with basic accessories, but I really am happy I ended up with my used '09 Sport. This has quite a few extras on it and I appreciate most of them. Including the cruise control, factory block heater, and extra adjustable drivers seat. I could have lived with a basic model, but the little extras do make is a very comfortable car to be in.

IMHO, it looks too much like one of those little "European" namby-pamby cars. Guess that's what you get when you let the Frenchies take over the company.

Bring back the original big, boxy Cherokee!

What Wormy said. A red CJ-7 Renegade came in once while I worked at Discount Tire last year, and 'twas beautiful. The manager had to tell me that "we're not here to gawk at cars", lol.
