Spotted this today while walking around at the North American International Auto Show today in Detroit. The colour is called "ENVI green". It's a 4x2, has a killer looking roof rack and "SRT Style" 5 spoke wheels by Startech.

It's meant for battery use for typical commuting, and then has the onboard small motor to recharge the battery so you have 400mile range and don't get stranded.

I would buy this in a heartbeat if it was available today, and had a year or two of use to get the bugs worked out.

I think that is pretty much the industry standard now isn't it? It would get most people to work and back on a single charge. And then you'll have the regular gas tank for highway trips.

It may be that 40 miles a day is based on 40x365=14,600. 15,000 miles is supposedly the 'average' distance traveled in a year.

Even if you have a 40 mile commute each way to work (which would suck), you will only use half as much gas as you normally do. If your workplace gets with the program and puts electric outlets out there for you, then you can be gas-free.

What will be the electric power consumption of the EV Pat?
Do you have electricity for free in the states? I don´t thin so or?
I mean let`s say the EV Pat will be 5000$ more than a standart 4x2 Gas version and you have to to pay for electric power too.
How many miles would you need to drive until you saved the 5000$ + the costs for daylie batterie loading?
Let´s say the gallon would cost 3$ again and you need 2 gallons for your 40mls commuting (the max range of the EV in electric mode) you need about 835 (work) days or 33400 mls in electric mode alone to save the 5000$ you payed earlier. (this math doesn´t include the costs for the electricity.)
And if the gallon would costs 1.5$ only it would double the miles. then you need 1670 (work) days or 66800mls to save the 5000$ alone.
Not to mention the extra costs for maintainance and battery replacements after some years.
Doesn´t sound promising or?

Electricity is inexpensive in the US, compared to gasoline. A 40 mile charge should cost less than a dollar even in the most expensive areas.

The appeal for an ENVI Patriot is:
1. Even if gasoline becomes very expensive, it won't hurt me (much).
2. Driving electrically as much as possible means that much less oil the US must import, which drives down the cost of gas for other people as well as helping out the US's energy security.
3. It helps opens the path, in the long term, to alternate energy sources like wind and solar, so that eventually driving a car will not use any non-renewable fuels.

It would be wise for Americans to support ENVI-type vehicles as much as they possibly can, even if it doesn't save us money right now. Supporting these vehicles drives investments in all-electric cars, energy distribution infrastructure, alternate energy, and energy security. Ultimately, it is a matter of national security to rid our country of all oil imports.
