Jeep Patriot as rental cars

A certain rental car company just bought some more Patriots to use in upstate NY and VT, so they will be popping up at some local branches and airports up there in the near future.

A few came to my branch this week, and I must say, they are just awful in terms of equipment - I think they bought the most stripped down ones available. They all have the yucky steel wheels, no tinted glass, no sirius radio, no fun stuff whatsoever.

The notable exception is that they all have heated mirrors - something that my '08 (which is very well equipped) does not have. I'm a little jealous. Is that standard equipment now or something?

I'm also a liking the illumination around the cupholders, wish my '08 had that. Otherwise I think think I like the '08s better - I'm not a huge fan of the round air vents and new look of the dash.

One thing I did do was take apart one of the keys of the rentals and switch the back with mine (the part where it says "Jeep" - mine was all worn off), as well as the rubbery button insert (also all worn off), obviously keeping my computer chip and the actual metal key part. Worked like a charm, now I have a brand new-looking key and one 2010 Patriot rental car with 30 miles on it has a terrible looking, worn down key fob. I love my job!

Sounds like the rental company purchased the "Ad Vehicles" designed to get you into the Jeep dealership, the ones you would never buy. I've seen several lately that have been sitting since last September and was told they really don't even want to sell them. Can you say "bait and switch"?

I just got my UK spec Patriot Sport and it has the heated mirrors. The mirrors also power-fold flat against the car which is great for tight parking spaces. You've got to remember to unfold them before driving but it's a real cool feature.

Jeep Patriot is a horrible rental vehicle. they are usually bare bones and do not have the seat height adjuster. throw in the fact that rental car companies poorly maintain their vehicles (minus a few good companies like National and Avis), and you end up having a bad experience with the Patriot that leaves many with a bad taste in their mouth about the product. rental car companies LOVE the Patriot because they are dirt cheap to buy as fleet vehicles from Chrysler, and can be classified as an SUV so they can charge more for it.

i like the Patriot as a product, but i try to avoid having them as rental vehicles for the above stated reasons.

I think down here Enterprise Rentals use them, and people here BEAT THE PISS out of them. I remember asking to turn one on when I was searching for a Pat, the engine was knocking!! screw that, everyone beats on rental cars, I'd never buy one
