Is the patriot durable?

When I read jeep patriot reviews, they say that it is not going to be reliable long term. Is this true?

Hard to say, as it's only been out for a couple of years. I don't see anything in the design giving long term reliability issues. The CVT's have been used since 2001 by Nissan, so no problem there, the engine has been tested extensively and should last a long long time. One of the issues that might cause some grief is the various electical wiring running througout the vehicle is not protected by conduit and is exposed to the elements in some areas under the hood ....but that's a time will tell sort of thing.

Well, how reliable is the Caliber? It is basically the same car and the Caliber has been on the market much longer.

As far as I know, there are only a handful of members who are outside of the 36,000mile warranty period. It's probably way too early to say if it's going to be a reliable vehicle or not. The best answer you'll get out of most of us is "so far, so good!"

My Sxt 2litre Cvt. caliber was 2 years old when I swapped it for Pat. That car ran perfectly in my ownership. I shall be pleased if my Pat runs as well as Cali.

Be honest, Riot is low budget car, so we can't wait from it too much...but until now it runs good except leaking (soved), rattling in trunk area (trying to improve that myself) and suspention problems (already changed a lot of spare parts).

I disagree. I would say it is an average budget car built with some degree of quality. Sure the bumper covers, and trim might not hold up forever and the sheet metal is straight and thin feeling, but the basic compenents will last as any other domestic car on the road if not abused.

I haven't read the reviews that say it won't hold up long term and I have read most if not all reviews out there.

I certainly understand if one has had problems that they might think it is low budget, but I don't think that is the rule. I think most of us have had a very good experience.

I love Jeep, but truth is, many look as Jeep as Cheap. Whether rumours or not, I don't personally think it will last as long as many other makes. I always feel like I have to be "extra careful" using this thing... in case if I wreck something or shorten its life if I'm a bit harder on it. Heck, even the gas mileage is phenomenally different comparing to the summer... just with slightly more idling, and a bit colder engine running temps, I went from 500-570 kms/tank (during and shortly after engine break-in) to just barely over 400+ kms/tank at its best, this winter. Never seen such a big difference on fuel consumption between winter and summer from the same car.

But after all it is a budget crossover, and the capabilities are quite impressive for its class. And at the same time, I have also never been so infatuated with a vehicle before too ;)

you know what i have this really low budget dvd player and it out lasted my $300 samsung dvd, some times the cheap simple products, prevail

but the pat does seem pretty cheap, i dont know how many times my doors get slamed because of how light they are and every speed bump i go over the squeeks come out, but hey you get what you pay for and im okay with that i love my pat best vehicle i've ever owend

I like the way the Patriot is built, and if I could build my own car/4x4 I would probably add more strength to it, hey, maybe I can get a trillion dollar loan from the gov. for some R&D on a start up car company. Not many mass production cars/suv's are built very well, that's how they can be mass produced.

I've had my 07 Patriot since October 2007 - Have 47,000 miles on it - Only issue i had was lowing a cooling fan fuse (40 amp) while going thru a 1.5 ft deep watercrossing while having the ac blasting (which should have been my sign...) I use Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil and Fram air and oil filters which i change every 10,000 miles now - Change out the cabin filter or try to every six months - so far finding a decent set of stock sized tires have been an issue - had to settle for a set of Goodyear Integrity tires - Most part its been pretty reliable - Have yet to get it stuck out here in the fine sands found out here in the Desert...

Two years old March 7, only 19k miles. Still doesn't rattle and it has at least 1k miles in the dirt and mud.
Past Jeep experience was great, I have over 500k miles on four Jeeps dating back to '89. That's an indication of what I expect from this Jeep as well.
Had it out yesterday in the dirt with a friend who was visiting from up north, I definitely scared him a little kickin' up the dust.
Handles well off-road, sucks up the big ones and I love the factory ride(suspension).
These would be selling for bigger bucks in a stronger economy, we paid $20k for ours in early '07, of course it was a new model as well.
Compared to my '89 Cherokee, which had the factory 'rattle' tailgate, the Pat is very solid as far as the uni-body goes. I don't think it needs any stiffening.

Next month my 07 will be 2 years old with over 36K miles, biggest issue so far was needing to get all 4 speakers replaced. Yes it squeaks and rattles but no worse than our old XJ and less than I expected after 2 years, keeping in mind is sees 6 miles a day driving down a rutted and potholed dirt road at speeds of 30+mph.

I am going to add a DEFINITELY DURABLE to that list. Because, we have beat the crap out of our little 4x2, and it takes it all in stride. This car has gone through more than it logically SHOULD HAVE... motorcycle trails, etc.. This thing is hard to beat up, i tell you. The only dent we have in the thing is from when a lady decided she was going to merge with my bf at the gas-station.. not paying attention, blah blah; her toyota truck was mutilated, while we sustained a small rear-fender scar..

Yes, but did you use it to reclaim that FSJ Cherokee from it's previous location?

My room mate spoke highly of her Toyota until one -25 degree morning when we had to jump start it with my 1962 Flatbet Jeep that had been converted from a Wagoneer. It had the 230 tornado. The 230 is a good starter in all kinds of weather.

7 - 8 years

I never owned any vehicle for more than 5 years,to be honest with you I get tired off the same wheels and THE RELIABILITY factor declines rapidly with any car after so many years,if you just do short distance trips ,up to let's say 300 - 400 mi. then I figure one is OK with an older vehicle,if you do long distance L.A. to Chicago then I don't like anything over 5 - 6 years
