so i recently have purchased a Kenwood DDX470 head unit from sonic electronix. i came with the dash kit and antenna adapter for free. i also bought a wire harness ($9) and a sirius xm satilight radio tuner ($50). sonic had the head unit for $50 off so i decided to get it. also since the order was over $200 they gave me a free BBQ grill and brush (4th of July special).

i will be posting everything i do with it on this thread.

so give me you options and suggestions.

Uh oh... I was wondering about this when another poster talked with crutchfield and they said no aftermarket units were compatible....which makes no sense, but maybe now it does.

I have no idea what your next move should be besides returning the Kenwood. Sorry man

It is not uncommon to have to remove the metal bracket in there for aftermarket head units( I saw that in many posts on various forums when I was looking into head units ). That isn't what is behind the not fitting issue( or shouldn't be ). Same dash as in 09, 10, 11, 12 that they say things fit. This thing with Crutchfield has to do w/ Premium Sound or w/o Premium Sound so I believe they think there is some kind of wiring issues.

Creation did they change the design after they redid the interiors on the 09s+? Or did you have to modify yours too?

I had a Kenwood KVT-617 DVD CD with Navigation and the speakers were cutting in and out from front to back so I took it to a shop and was told the head unit was bad. I paid over $1,000.00 for the sob and didn't use it that much in the several years that it was in my Patriot, not my daily driver. I had a off-brand put in with the same features. A factory authorized repair shop wanted $85.00 to bring the system in and said would credit that towards repair cost IF they could replicate the problem. They sell for under $200.00 and sometimes over $200.00 on E-Bay for a used one. Mine is in a box in the closet ya wouldn't believe the amount of wires and crap it takes to run the stereo and navigation. The Kenwood worked fine if a person doesn't mind the sound changing from front to back speaks randomly. What a POS and WOM, live and learn. I will never buy a Kenwood again.. Sorry to rant and hijack, true story about a month ago.

That sucks. I have bought kenwood before and have been blown away every time. I guess I am Lucky. Also an update, I plan on bending a metal wire in place to hold the headunit up. It won't cost A dime and will make it last long. What do you guys think?

how long does it take to swap out the head unit? I have never personally replaced my stereo but it's probably not that difficult right?

I had to have the whole stereo taken out then take it to a Kenwood repair shop and have them look at it. They said they couldn't guarentee that they could replicate the problem. By the time it's all said and done no telling how much to repair it then pay to have it reinstalled. I said the heck with it and bought a different unit with pretty much the same features for $625.00 installed. I don't know what to do with the POS as it's in a box in the closet. It's a whores nightmare of wires with the Navigation unit, I've never seen so many wires. :wow: The box for the Navigation unit itself was mounted under the front passenger seat.

thanks for the info gentlemen! when i get my double din....I know to just pay somebody now.I haven't looked at many decks yet except this cheap one on ebay, all the bells and whistles, I am a little weary of the quality it may be though! probably best to stick with known brands.
