Identity Crisis: An SUV/4x4? A Crossover? A Road Car?

Hi fellow Patriot enthusiasts

I'm BQC and hail from the land down under, Australia. I have recently purchased a 2012 Patriot Limited (Silver), love it to bits, and am already considering modifying it, however, am unsure of how to go about it.

There seems to be a divide regarding "themes" to follow; some have modified their Patriot to suit off-road conditions, improving ride height, tyres etc; others fitting 20+inch rims, chrome accessories and making it more of a head turner on the streets; and others have left it to be, with subtle modifications or none at all.

With a blank canvas on my hands, I am torn as to how I should go about modifying my Patriot. I have read here and on other forums that the Patriot is not a serious off-roader and so owners shouldn't even bother trying to trying to replicate it's older brothers in the Wrangler or Cherokee/Liberty. If I were to opt for the street look, it seems that others would think of me being a "try-hard" and a driver stuck in a teenage dream of big wheels and shiny features.

I can appreciate that each owner has his/her own identity, and this is reflected in their car's appearance and performance; however, I feel that going for either look will bring about criticism.

For me personally, I would love a bit of both worlds. A Patriot which can seamlessly transcend from the beaten track to the streets and still draw admiration and respect.

Is it therefore better to just leave it the way it is? Is there a happy medium?

Any input or feedback would be great. Thanks.

If you are unsure, I would wait until you look around a bit more and get a better idea of what you are wanting your Jeep to be! As for me, well it does well off road, and even better with a bit of a lift and better tires. No identity crisis here! :pepper:

kind of a personal preferance,
1 thing i would do, is just look at your pat,
whats missing in your eyes?
what do you imagine?
some people have a vision for their ride right away,
some, may take a while,
kind of like work of art :)

does help browsing other pats and seeing which ones you really like and want to head in that direction

Most do mods based on their usage, Lifts and bigger tires for more clearance. Roof baskets for gear. Some do things for their hobbies, like fishing or hunting or skiing, etc.

Wait till you see all the stuff folks here have done, and something will strike you.

It's completely up to you, but I would go the off-road route. The off-road identity has practical value as it will be able to perform better in those environments. Whereas 20 inch rims and chromed out touches is trying too hard to dress up a entry-level Jeep.

Just my opinion, hey you could always do both right?

I wear my hair in a flattop (like I have since 1955), wear jeans and cowboy boots and fix my vehicles however I feel like. As long as they are not paying for it, they have no right to criticise. (and even if they do, I ignore it) Look around, decide what is right for you and go for it.
