Hi everyone!
I hail from Fairbanks Alaska and LOVE LOVE LOVE my new Jeep patriot! So much so i convinced my sister to buy one this past weekend!
Lots of ruggedness around here to have some... but not to much... fun on!

Look forward to interacting with everyone!

Welcome Alaska Jeep Girl. Great to have someone from Alaska here. about 2 years ago I got to drive a Cherokee from Ky to Fairbanks in Aug. Then back in January. My daughter went to UAF for one semester. I fell in love with Alaska. If your Patriot has the CVT trans I would really like to hear how it does later when it really gets cold. The answer to this is why I really had reservations about getting it, as I intend to come back to Alaska some. I guess I'm nuts, but I like the winter also. To get the true Alaska experience you can't just visit in the nice weather.

I've heard that the drive to Alaska is spectacular! ( I flew and had my car shipped) I can tell ya that the drive IN Alaska is breathtaking at every turn! Winter isn't to bad..we are after all a desert climate!
I have a 5 Speed manual. My Kia that I traded was an automatic and it hated winter..even with a good long warm up the transmission still slipped for about the first 10 minutes of driving!

So, I'm wondering what all I can do to make this sportier...any suggestions? The Jeep website doesn't show a whole lot. I do have the air deflector on order but thats more to put off having to replace the windshield as quickly as I will be.... multiple times..!

The drive is really great, I didn't care much for flying. I just kept see country I wished I was driving through, so I could really see it.

Put your finger on the inside of the windshield, behind a dirty spot. Look at how thin the windshield is. I'm afraid Jeep saved weight in the wrong place. You will be replacing ALOT of windshields.

Greetings Alaska Jeep Girl from Downunder. You live in an incredible state.

I visited Alaska 2 years ago and had the best time - after seeing the Inside Passage then went to Anchorage, to Denali NP and made it all the way north to Kotzebue (just above Arctic Circle) and to Nome on Bering Sea (I am an Iditarod fan so had to see where the race finished as I was in the neighbourhood...). Will definitely be back. Would have loved to had my Patriot to do the driving we did in AK.

I'm a HUGE mushing "fan!" Mushing is one of the best winter sports I have ever encountered! Those dogs are just awesome! One of the toughest mushing races is started/ended here in Fairbanks on alternate years. Its called the Yukon Quest. Its a 1000 mi race that in some areas is pretty dangerous. Far tougher then the Iditarod. Alot of mushers use it to train for the Iditarod since its about a month before.
The first road trip I did in my Patriot was to drive the Denali Highway. Its actually out side the park and until the 1950's used to be the only road going to the park itself. Took us 8 hours to drive 135 miles! Pure ruggedness... Only 3 houses on the whole road.. the rest is pure Alaska tundra, gravel and pot holes the size of Texas!! (which of course made it well worth it)

I'm not so sure I could live off of the road system..... but I hear Kotz and Nome are beautiful.
I like Fairbanks. While we do hit that -50 at least a few days out of winter its tolerable cause we have no real wind and definitely no water close by to turn the cold into that bone chilling cold!
So, is coming back a future plan or a wish?
