Goodyear spare tire recall

I have Patriot with FDII, wheel and tire package 215/65/17 (Goodyear Wrangler), which includes so called "full size spare". I measured my spare and it is only 26" + some fraction. Is that "full size spare"??? It is Goodyear T15590D16 - designated for temporary use only. Does everyone have the same JOKE full size spare, or am I just one of few?

And if that is not enough, I googled it and found a recall notice by Goodyear!!! It is not safe, and will be replaced by Goodyear pending "owner notification". Here is the link to notice, seems to be dated September 01, 2008

Be safe, check it out.

I just checked my spare - wonder who was working that day at the factory - they gave you the shaft - I verified my spare is a full size - I would be upset and notify the dealership of why this is so - Vehicle is advertized to have a full size spare and check the window decal if you may have saved it - What a bumer...

Does it fit?

Thanks for the info, I will be visiting my dealer... Does your full size spare fit in the compartment? And is it Tire and wheels package size 215/65-17?

Did you mean me? (petbug) I will take picture today and post it. By the way, how do you like Yokohama Geo's? I am planning to get 225/70/17 after my lift or 235. Any pros and cons?

Should be a full size when you pay for that option. Will be checking mine, when wife comes back.

Petbug, Was looking for date of recall, when you click on right corner of notice, new window opens with date of 1983. Could this be a old recall? Still doesn't explain four 17" tires and a 16" spare.

Pictures of my spare and my apology for OLD recall notice

You are correct, I was so upset about the whole thing I did not investigate the date of recall, indeed it is old.

However, my spare is not full size. And by the response you can see we did not get treated equally. I wonder how can Chrysler/Jeep can do this to the buyers! I want my FULL SIZE spare and I will camp at my dealer until I get it!! Here are the pictures of my "full size spare" for all of you to laugh at...

Now I'm curious as to whether a full size spare will fit in the spare well in the FDI. I'm going to measure this week but just wondering if anyone knows the answer to this already. Not a huge concern for me now, but good to know for future reference.

I'm 100% sure a full size spare will fit the FDI and II. There's no reason for the body work to be different, and it's offered as an option.

My FDII's got the identical tire as my 4 wheels (17" SR-A), but you've already established that you're right petbug. :)

Thanks polished. That's what I was thinking and a quick measurement should confirm but one of my biggest beefs is the donut spare. At least throw a full-size w/ the stock 16" steel wheel in there. I don't need a nice 17" limited wheel hiding in the "trunk" but donuts just suck.

Should be a huge concern since no full size means temporary use = 50 kilometers or miles) I think I've read somewhere. So in a remote area you'll be way over that temporary use limit. Steel full 17'' spare is already a bummer for 200$. My Hyundai Santa Fe had a stock spare tire on an aluminium wheel. In this case Jeep rimes with cheap.

you mean it's the least expensive SUV out there? You don't design in least expensive by giving away an aluminum rim that sits in the trunk.

For my uses, 50 miles would easily get me home. But I would of course prefer a full size, and will be looking to replace my donut with something useful should I head anywhere away from home/remote. Solid advice. Just another thing I guess I took for granted on my 95 Pathfinder. The more I think about it the more I realize what a great truck that was. But I love my Patriot, and it's good to know I can swap out the donut for a full-size. Anyone got an extra wheel for me?:)

@polished: I would have liked to stick with a Nissan (I put on 140,000+ trouble free miles out of my 95 Pathfinder's 187,000), but saw no need to spend $3k more on the Rogue. The Patriot is a better looking truck anyway.

I agree with wasting an alloy wheel in the trunk. Aftermarket external tire carrier in the works anywhere? I wonder.
