Fuel Tank Capacity

Has anyone been able to fill the tank anywhere near the reported tank capacity? Everytime I fill up I am not able to get above 12.5 gallons. Last night I drove about 25 miles after the "Low Fuel" light came on. The needle was on top of the empty mark. This is a low as it's ever been. I fueled up this morining and actually over filled the tank as some gas spilled out (oops!!).:wow: It was still only 12.5 gallons. Does this mean I still had over a gallon left in the tank? Does anyone with the EVIC know how many miles are left to empty when the Low Fuel lights comes on?

varies

generally the low fuel light comes on about 1.5 to 2 gallons to empty,
if you drove 25 miles on low, and got 12.5 Gallons, pretty close to the mark,
probably had about 1 gallon in the tank and/or system,
which would bring you pretty close to your 13.5

The EVIC is programed to run out of gas before your car actually does as well...

I have only had my jeep for 2 weeks now and have only filled up once, but what I can tell you is my boyfriend has a dodge srt4 and his car gets about the same milage as mine, 23mph - mix of city and highway driving. And his tank holds up to 13.5 gallons and when his low fuel light comes on it means that he has about 40 miles left to drive, if he fills up then he can put in about 11-12 gallons. BUT if his fuel light starts to flash he has about 10 miles and he can fit in about 13 gallons of gas.

I don't know if the jeeps gas light will flash, I don't let mine get that low, but our other cars do flash and we have a dodge truck and a pacifica.

Thought I would throw this out there regarding letting your tank get bone dry... When you pump gas from a station you will sometimes get junk from their tanks (I know... depends on the station and the condition of their inline filters) pumped up into your tank. Most of this settles to the bottom of your tank and isn't a big deal. When you are sucking the last drops off the bottom of your tank you are sucking this junk into you fuel filter and thus clogging it. As this happens more and more of the filter will clog more and more and could lead to damage to your fuel pump etc etc... Just FYI I have heard from some service stations that you should replace your fuel filter after you run out of gas completely... Don't know how important it is but seems logical esp on an older vehicle with more crud in the tank.

Ask 10 people will get 10 different asnwers

just to contradict you,
If you run low often, you also prevent some of the buildup from building up to begin with,
basically running smaller particles , than letting it build up to larger particles
have a dodge neon with 200K miles on, always filled up at last minute,
never had to change the fuel filter on it,

also add cheap fuel line cleaner once a month or so,
dont know what contributed to running clean,
so i dont mess with a good thing,
as for the fuel additive,
i usually buy the $1 bottles at walmart,
will buy a bunch and keep them around

i put several miles on my pat after the fuel light came on and i was kind of freaking out because i drove about all day with the light on and i put in 13.1 gallons which was just in the nick of time. im supprised cars can run off such low amounts of gas, u dont see how the fuel pump can even get to it.

The bad thing about letting it get that low is that when you fill it junk can get knocked up off of the bottom of the tank and find its way into the injectors. No fun that! Of course your car is a newbie so the crud hasn't built up yet, but puleeeze fill it when it gets to 3 quarters empty and save yourself some future agony.
