First Oil Change

OK, Got a new Patriot with about 2600K on it. Only had it a few week and I and down about 1/2 quart of oil. The manual says this is normal. I am going to take another road trip next week of about 2K so I want to do the first oil change before 3K and the next trip. Should I bring it back to the dealership ?? If not, what oil is good for break in ?? I plan on using Amsoil about the 3rd or 4th change.

maybe use dino oil to break it in for your trip? then switch to synthetic

filter on the first change is a pain to remove! (was on my 2007)

I think it was installed with an impact wrench at the engine plant...

If you are near 3k, dump the factory oil now and go with the Amsoil. I changed my 2009 out at 600 for Mobil 1. Went 3000 on the 2011 before the synthetic. Dealer should give you a freebie for the first one, but they probably wont spring for the Amsoil.

My first was at 2000m to M1. Then again at 5000m. I have stayed with the 5000m interval since. This interval is very easy to track without having to go to the records.

I think I get 4 free changes at the dealership..... Have to go on Friday and get the first.

I used a filter wrench and a socket wrench to get it off. I think I even went with a pipe on the socket wrench just to get it moving.. it's been about 6 months since I did the first change
