Purchased a 2008 limited in August. The vehicle was originally a lease and has resided in Pennsylvania since delivered to the dealer. I was stopped this weekend for illegal window tint on both driver and front passenger side windows. In Pennsylvania there needs to be at least 70% threshold on the amount of light and visibility from the outside of the vehicle. The officer clearly thought that the tint was beyond this threshold. There were no records from the dealer I purchased the vehicle from regarding any after market tinting work.

Does anyone know what percentages windows may be tinted from the factory? At this point, I need to have the tinting removed within 10 days but I'm curious if there is any information regarding window tint. I have a feeling this was put on aftermarket....

Privacy glass (window tint) is installed by Chrysler, as an option. The most stringent state laws is the US call for 70% LT (light transmittance), or 30% tint. Pennsylvania and 12 other states follow this standard, the rest allow darker. Texas and 2 others only require 25% LT. If your Jeep was fitted with Privacy Glass, the front windows are at the "50 state" standard of 70% LT, making them legal in your state. If someone installed aftermarket film, all bets are off. Two ways to settle it. 1) Get a notorized statement from the dealed certifying that your glass is factory installed. 2) Go to a local window shop who should have a light meter and have your windows tested.
