ESP/BAS, TCS, 4WD!

I have been struggling with this issue for about a week now. When I started my car after work one day, my ESP/BAS, TCS, and 4WD! lights were all on and all systems were inactive. They have remained deactivated ever since day one.

My '08 has been in the shop twice now for the same problem and no luck yet.

They scratched their heads for 8 hours on Friday and ended up replacing an all wheel drive module. Apparently that didn't work either because they scratched their heads for 8 hours again today and now they are replacing my TIPM. I don't know much about the mechanics of the vehicle, but doesn't the TIPM control my headlights and windshield wipers, not my ESP, TCS, and 4WD?

Has anyone else had this problem because I don't have the time/patience to deal with this indefinitely. The shop is an hour out of my way and my Pat is literally my only means of transportation to and from work.

Questions sort of related. Can you confirm your pat is in "2wd" mode, with those lights on. Reason I say that I had all those same lights come on when I was messing around with my Patriot up on blocks, and it was still sending power to the rear wheels.

Even in 2wd, if the system detects slip to the front wheels it will send power to the rear wheels. Look up on how the FDI system works and it confirms the above.

To fischer, I believe this has happened before to other members. If I recall its a loose connector somewhere. Not sure if its on the 4wd activation switch or somewhere else.

I should have mentioned, in all my videos i've always had esp off.

In the first link the front wheels are off the ground, simulating the fronts slipping, so no problems there.

In the BLD thread I had the passenger side wheels up in the air, in the unlocked 4x4 mode, locked 4x4 mode AND the FDII mode, in the unlocked mode power was still going to the back despite there being "equal" traction front and back.

i'm sure esp fully on would have made the system react differently.

when you say, "equal" traction front and back, you meant, "equal" traction front and back on the driver side since those wheels were on the ground right?

I believe that even with 4x4 unlocked (so in Normal Mode/2wd) any wheel slippage to either of the front wheels, rapid acceleration, or tight turns will cause power to be sent to the rear wheels. True 2wd in the FDI and FDII can only occur when in normal mode (4x4 unlocked) and no slippage at all to any wheel.

How about trying to only jack up only the rear wheels and have the front wheels on the ground. I wonder how that would react at normal acceleration in 4x4 unlocked mode.

I would think to check to see if power to the rear is FULL time, as you suggest, you would need to put the rear of the vehicle on a dolly and drive off the front. Yeah, not easy to do.

Hate to hijack this thread, as per Jeelo's post I did some testing tonight.

"AWD" mode ESP on and ESP Full off, with both front tires on the ground and 1 or both rear tires up in the air, they would not spin if the vehicle was in drive without any gas (idling) as soon as I gave it a small amount of gas the rear wheels would start spinning (so basically getting power) I can't seem to get my patriot to act in 2wd at all still.

Fischer...I literally just got my 08 Patriot back from the dealer for the same issues about 30 minutes ago. Here's the scoop...ESP/BAS/Traction Control lights were stuck "on" upon first start in the morning last Saturday and stayed on all day. Brought to dealer...they replaced a brake lamp switch, everything was OK for 24 hours. Next morning, lights were back on. Back to dealer...they ended up replacing the PCM (Powertrain Control Module). Turns out water got into the left kick panel and corroded the wiring. This in turn shorted out the driver software in the PCM. Not sure how the water got in there, my Pat is 2wd and stays in the city...I don't off-road. Hope this helps, maybe you can relay it to the techs that are working on your Jeep and it will point them in the right direction.

I have a 2008 that had corroded wiring. The dealer and my mechanic have both also said the cause of the 4WD! and other lights (BAS/EPS or whatever, and the swerving icon) is a bad power drive module or something. Not a cheap part/fix.
