I seem to be talking to myself here, but I thought I'd just close this out for anyone who happens to have the same question in the future.
The engine was identical, except for the fact the 2011 Avenger didn't have the extra coolant temperature sensor on the engine block, and it didn't have an intake runner control or flapper inside the intake manifold. I was able to swap both of them over from the old motor to the "new" motor. For some reason they didn't put the extra temp. sensor on the motor for any of the 2011 models, whether it was a Jeep or an Avenger.
To take out the metal plug out of the threaded hole provided in the location for the temp. sensor on the engine block, which was required for the 2010 model, I needed to provide heat around the plug with a propane torch. The plug was easy to take out after I did this.
To swap the intake runner on the "new" intake manifold I had to pop out the plastic tab inside the hole the shaft for the runner connects to the actuator. The mounting holes for the actuator were available on the "new" intake manifold.
I also had to swap out the right engine support bolted to the motor because the Avenger has a different layout under the hood, way roomier than the Jeep.
FYI, the "new" engine I salvaged off the 2011 Avenger from the local Pick'n'Pull seems to be running fine in the 2010 Jeep Patriot. It cost me $225 CAD for the new motor. Not a bad deal! This fix would have cost me over $5000 if I would have had it done at a service centre. If I hadn't done the work myself, the car would've ended up in the scrap yard.
