2007 model CRD Limited. Owned since new. Not been a problem before but yesterday when going doe the motorway, the light came on with a chime of 1 ting, loss of power, then reduced power but continued to run.

Power came back but not to normal levels (turbo engine). Coming home from work, the light is still on though very low glow. Power seems about normal.

Responded to calls for power when accelerator pressed.

Now, battery is 7 years old and does need replacing as last night the lights could be seen to be pulsing. I assune this is the engine charging the battery, switching out when charged and battery requesting charge again.

Could this be the pissble fault? I know there have been problems in the past with turbo pipes coming loose. The engine was fare old messed about last year during service, having the filters etc changed and major service completed which included a new radiator.

Any ideas to this one chaps?

Is the Patriot OBD2? Need to consider buying a cheap reader.

Many thanks in advance. Would al,so add that yesterday was a fairly hot and humid day, around 23 degrees yesterday going to work. Cooler in the evning.

Look forward to the input:)

edit:

I shaould add that this light came on when I increased acceleration from cruise to pass a lane hogging car, around 80mph.

Well, in the UK we have not seen a really cold day for years. Granted the battery showed signs of problems last year but as the weather remained pretty mild but damp (typical summer here :) ) I let the battery stay on. I have also charged it several times with a specialist charger over the last couple of years. It is still the original Optima RTC4.2. Seems a pretty hardy battery for here.

Still, time for the ÂŁ's to be spent.

Hmm, had a look under the bonnet (hood to you guys:) ) and checked the turbo pipes which incidentally are held on by metal clips. No problem there. What I did notice and this may have been there for some time is oil residue and appears wet around the filler.

Cause to worry? Or perhaps left there from an oil fill.

I cannot find anything else that may be causing the problem. Nothing sort of 'sticks out like a sore thumb'.

Now I can find no reference to a pcv valve. Must have been looking at the petrol versions. So, we are still at a loss to know where this oil comes from. bum!

check th hose coming from the intercooler and going to the turbo.
it 's in front of the radiator.
they tend to split.
you should hear a slight hiss when accelerating, but it is difficult to hear because of the engine noise.
been there.
if the split is big,you might get the engine light.

No hissing etc. However, going to fit the battery and found a spanner was no good for the battery mount. Thought I'd check the oil as well whilst at it.

Horror of horrors, found the level well up the dipstick. Should have checked the oil in the past after the last service. Finally found a garage that would help and they drained out over 2 litres of excess oil!!!!!!! Didn't charge either:)

I think the warning light is high pressure in the crankcase. The 'whump' I heard must have been pressure blowing past the filler cap and hence the oil over the top of the engine around the filler cap. Hope the god I have not broken any seals. No oil on the floor or anything and power ok.

Motto would be to NOT trust a garage to do a job properly. Though I should have made regular checks on the oil levels. As not much mileage since the last service (4k in a year), just left it to the instruments.

Going to double/tripple check everything a garage does at service in future.

Got a socket set now as well (must have inadvertently thrown out the previous one when I cleared out the garage a couple of years ago).

You are not kidding. I never checked it after it came back, normally I do but was side tracked by the low pressure in the nes radiator they had fitted. This is a year ago now and frankly I think I am damned lucky to still have an intact engine. Could have easily blown it to bits:(

Rather lucky the engine oil filler blew it's gasket I think.

you are right.
anyway,it is a tough engine.
the reason i bought it in 2009 and didn't wait for the 2009 2.2 mercedes engine.

egr valve ok?
any split or loose hoses?

Nope, checked all that but assumed electrical as on when engine had yet to start.

I understand though that the light will not extinguish immediately as the system has to ensure it actually is fixed. Went to go to the supermarket just now (after again checking the oil :) :) ) and the light went out:) Hooray for me I thought:) and it has stayed out.

I have just checked the voltage off load of the old battery I took off....11.3 Volts. Assuming the voltage to the solenoid was deciphered by the onboard systems to be too low when the alternator switched out and issued a fault. The 'pop' I heard must have been the over boost it detected and blew the gate open.

All appears to be running smoother now. The startup is just the same but it feels a little 'livelier', like it wants to move rather than doing so rather reluctantly.

Now, the battery fitting was really good fun. Assuming the bolt was 13mm and nope, it had to be 12mm. Really tight. Why on earth though did I undo a 3 inch bolt?? As you are trying to undo the bolt it angles towards the bulkhead and had to remove one of the extensions on the ratchet.

Anyway, clean and oiled all the threads so should be easier in 7 years time when I fit my next battery:) :)

Really like the little OBD11 reader I bought. ÂŁ12.45 from Amazon. Bluetooth version. No software but used the free verion of 'Torque' until I knew it actually worked.

Works like a dream. Checked history for codes and codes pending etc. All clear. Would make a lot of sense to build these into the car in the first place.

Thanks everyone for all your advice and input:)

Mysterious. Same place same power and light came on. Exactly the same place on the road as the last time. Yet to check the code but whilst running, turned key back one click and forward again and light stays on but power resumes. Strange this.

Also the radio clock jumped 30 minutes forward, then short while later, reset again.

Checked code, same code 0243. Again, checked afround and nothing there appears to be causing a problem.

Ran the car at high revs and speed today, no faults registered and no problems.
