Thought I would throw up another thread for us bickerers. What, if any enduring myths or inaccuracies about the patriot (FWD, FDI, or FDII) have you noticied keep popping up on the forum?

One that I think that has been thoroughly busted is that the grill and bumper are two different pieces or even one piece riveted together. I do believe it has been thoroughly proven to be one piece.

I promise you they are one piece. Search for my thread, with pictures of it removed, if you'd like proof. :smiley_thumbs_up:

I've seen the FDI BLD's (brake lock diff) debate enough already. Has anyone actually tested an FDI to find out? I can tell you that the ABS pump only has 2 lines coming out of it. 1 for the rear and one for the front. How could it control each wheel individually with one line to 2 wheels?

How about water fording? I've heard different stories saying the FD1 and FD2 have the vent for the transmission in the same place/different pace. Are both out of harms way when water fording. I've been water fording a lot. up above the bottom of the doors in my FD1. No problems so far. ( I dont care about the trim protecting in the doors, it's just water)

I still think the ultimate is that all the early Patriots were poorly made and suffered from leaks and Q.C. problems in general. Mine has not suffered any such maladies.

Oh i don´t think so. last time it was frozen was in the mid 80s. But there is still the tunnel and the Autobahnbridge :D. I use the ferries rarely. I don´t like to wait.
but wait. If it would be frozen i could pass the icy canal with a Pat. should work, lol.

Rends the POTM curse keeper.

BTW: Noone mentioned that the POTM curse is a myth so it means it is true muhaha.

Let's see... A couple of things pop into my mind immediately. I could probably think of lots more if I spent the time to.

  • 2WD mode in a 4x4 Patriot. This ain't a Wrangler, people. There is only AWD and 4WD.
  • Dirt roads are off-roading.

Quite a few people have. Some with video evidence. The ABS pump lines are a good point though.

We have two sources for this that have different opinions. First, there is the YouTube video made by Chrystler that talks about the differences of the FDII Patriot. In this video, the guy clearly states that they moved the vent higher on the FDII. On the other hand, there is a guy here who says he works in the Belvedere plant and says that there is no difference. Could be that they changed this at some point? Or it could be that Chrysler is bull****ting us. Kinda like with that TCS-issue in the manual...

Rear Differential Unit venting

I agree. I've seen the drawings for the rear differential unit: It's vented high with a snorkel for all 4x4 MK's according to the drawings. The Jeep Engineer did specifically mention in the video that only the FDII had that, but I think he's wrong, or it was changed for production after the video was made.

Anyone know if this should be visible on my FDI, if I should get under it for a look-see?

The 2 lines out of the ABS unit are more likely diagonal split instead of vertical, so Front Left/right Rear and Front Right/Left rear. How the system manages 4 wheel independent control of brake apply is that it builds pressure on the two wheels (diagonally) but then isolates (like ABS) the wheel it does not want to control.

2007 Patriot drawings for the rear axle (venting)

The links were broken to the pics, so I pulled a snapshot from the parts manual (Fig 3-110, Axle Assembly, Rear)
