joining the early wear club. went down to replace the stock affinity tires and picked up some nokian wr's . anyhow the tire shop called and said they are not going to be able to align the patriot as the outer tie rods are shot and it looks like the rear struts are leaking. they did not do a full suspension check so i wonder what else is shot. tie rods and struts were quoted at about $800 at the tire shop but they thought i should take it down to the dealed and talk to them due to the low kilometers they were supprised how worn things were. I had planned on taking it in anyway as it only has 28000 kilometers (17400 miles) but am 3 months past the 3year warranty.
went down to the dealer and explained what had been found. he asked if he could call me later as he wanted to call in to see what could be done since it has low mileage ,shortly after the warranty end and that i bring it to them for service. he called me back 45 minutes later and said they would cover the parts and me the labour, but chrysler wants it brought in to see what everything else looks like. wonder how the ball joints are going to be. ill find out friday but with what i would consider fairly low mileage i hope more is not found. oh ya i dont take this thing off road either

A few people have had this problem outside of their warranty. I know the dealer may offer to repair it under warranty if you pay a deductible. Just make sure the independent shop checks everything over so you can show the dealer what they found wrong with it. Otherwise they try to do as little as possible for you.

its a 2008 limited ...but only 28400 kilometers. 95% city driving, guess the streets are just to rough for chrysler's suspension, good thing i avoid the potholes or the wheels would be flying off. no but seriously from what ive read here for the past 4 years the suspension must not have been tested much during design , there are alot of other car companies putting out the same junk so im not going to dis chrysler alone. just worried now as i was going to trade in for a challenger and ive heard they have some ball joint etc issues as well.

dealership looked at the patriot and found the tire shop was correct plu found the steering gear was leaking. while i dont know how bad things were ,they are replcing the rear shocks and the rack i assume as they said it comes with the tie rod ends (complete unit) and alignment. i was quoted $900 ish for the work (apperantly they will cover parts up front but not the rear shocks) and am waiting for the shuttle van to take me back there to pick her up. plus im sure next year the patriot is going to need to get those lovely ball joints done. kinda sucks when the suspension goes and you are still on the original tires (changed to get better tires, originals had decent tread left) and original brakes etc. sorry i just feel more comfortable complaining where i know everyone has, is or will be able to complain about the same issues. although i never did have the leak issue luckily.lol.
