Do I need a whole new mirror?

I have an 11 Patriot with electronic and heated side view mirrors.

Today I hit my passenger mirror on a trash can.
The result - the mirror cover (housing? ) is laying on there a bit loose and a small piece of the plastic broke off.

The mirror still functions perfectly. It still moves up down left and right with no problem at all. It still defrosts fine. The glass is unharmed as well.

Literally the only thing wrong with it is the plastic cover is loose and missing a piece. So basically its just an eye sore. The actual mount for the mirror is fine as well its just the actual cover for the miror.

Would replacing it require messing with the door panel and getting a whole new assembly kit? That's what the dealer says.

Opinions?

Just recently replaced a side mirror myself...

Unfortunately, yes, to fix either the plastic housing or the glass, you need to order the whole side mirror assembly. It's not difficult to swap (there's a small plastic cover inside the vehicle which hides the three bolts that hold it - took me ten minutes on a lunchbreak, half of which was locating the right-sized socket), and I went thru Partsgeek and got a replacement for far far cheaper than Mopar. The quality is equal to the OEM part, with no noticeable differences whatsoever.

I believe the mirror ass'y was $32 before shipping; yours will likely be closer to $60-80 due to the heating element and movement electronics.
