I have a 2013 patriot sport 4x4, 5spd. i wash it and keep it waxed. also clean underside after i go off road and get mud or sand/salt under it- which isn't very often. last time on beach was 6 months after i bought it new in 2013....mud gets there sometimes when i go to the mountain but its just on the body underside edges and it comes right off....
So i have read about the 2007-2009 models having big issues with both front and rear crossmembers rusting out to the point you must replace to the tune of 1500$ an end or 3000$ for both at dealer which to me seems ludicrous on any modern car.
i have also heard of the 10 year extended warranty that was provided to certain owners in the salt belt states for the 2007 model.
i love my jeep. bought an extended lifetime warranty that covers most every expensive thing except the crossmembers it seems.
mine is a 2013 and i live in the southeast where we do get the occasional ice/snow event and it seems with even a threat of anything frozen they put the evil brine solution down- which i hate and try to avoid driving in till it gets rinsed off by a rain or 2.
how at risk am i for this issue?
was there a defect in the coating on the earlier models that has now been corrected? or is it just a matter of time when i get a letter or get the rust- though i don't live in a "salt belt" state.
as far as who had the issues, was it due to driving all winter after multiple winters and not washing the under carriage at all?
I am just trying to determine if i am at risk and what i can do to reduce or eliminate that risk- what with the lifetime warranty and all.
thanks!
