Eh, I would say it depends on your insurance situation and whether they charge you a deductible for repairs or not. If they're going to charge you the deductible, I'd say replace. I keep a $100 deductible for comprehensive coverage. I have a HUGE, 18" crack in my windshield that I'm going to have to replace one of these days. Funny thing is, there was a chip for a long time, and the crack hasn't found it yet.

When I lived in MI, we kept full glass coverage on all our vehicles, and I used that on almost every vehicle I owned - no deductible for replacement, slightly higher premium.

i had mine replaced a few months back, the replacement was a cheaper chinese one, and funnily enough it was thicker then the genuine mopar one and the windscreen guy said was stronger, after doing a few dirt roads what would normaly have cracked my old one this one hasnt had a mark whatsoever

Dunno about you guys but in FLA glass is covered for free by all insurance you buy here. Got a big spiderweb crack once in my old Nissan towards the end of its life--guy came to my work and replaced the whole windshield for free... Might want to check your insurance first and then should the crack get worse, get the whole thing done for free...

Chip - then crack

Last night my wife and I were on the hiway and a rock hit the windshield. "Chip". Then within 60 seconds we heard a pop and a 5 inch "Crack" had formed. It was cold out - like -10C.
We've only had our Patriot for 2.5 months!

The crack is too big to fix I've been told. To replace at Speedy Autoglass is $401.00CAN.
Insurance will cover it (no rate increase, comprehensive claim), but I have a deductable of $300.00

This sucks!!!!!!

havent replaced windshield on pat,

Have 1 half circle about 4" across just above rear view mirror,
And a dime sized nic smack in the middle on drivers side, that one annoys me, but not enough to replace windshield yet,
I tried using one of the glass fixers who came out, it only improved it by about 10% not worth the $50 he wanted to charge.
As for replacing windshield, worth driving for a cheaper rate, on my neon, which I replaced a few times, near my work they were all chargeing $300 or so. I would go to industrial areas of brooklyn and queens, and prices dropped to $115-$135.
10 -15 minute drive ca, save you hundreds

For a Lot of Insurance Companies glass is not under the normal deductable. Geico repairs a crack (filled) on my Pat for free and offered to replace the whole Window for $50 if I wasn't satisfied. I normally have a $500 deductible. For once I was happy with the Insurance Co, less happy that my Windshield was cracked within the first 2 weeks of ownership.

On my policy I have no deductable for glass, but that's my choice. I seem to replace it often. My Pat is barely 2 years old, and have had the windshield replaced once already, and already have a big nick in the new one. My new one was PPG glass, and good. I kept thinking with this cold weather that big nick was going to run and become a big crack, which is normal, but it hasn't yet. The glass company I use will come to my home, or office, to replace it. And they do a good job. My Tracker is a 2003 and when it was my daily driver I replaced the windshield every year, and so far with the Patriot I'm on about the same track.

I put a lot of miles on my vehicles though, and in the winters they use a lot of salt, sand, and I swear gravel in some places. So that, and the roads falling apart, have a lot of crap hitting the vehicle.

I'm not sure if we can have a no deductable glass coverage with our insurance company or not, but I'm going to find out. If it doesn't cost too much extra a year I think we'll have it put on. Going to drive across the country this summer and I want to have all my bases covered just in case.

Hi,

Happen to me an hour after I receive my new Pat... Receive a rock from a car in from of me on the highway. But for me I had to have the whole windshield replace. The crack was going from one side to the other of the windshield.

Thank you,
Martin

The problem I have found is the upright windshield will take a beating. Can't be fixed, but it looks good. I got a chip in the top of the window, it was in the black part and spread before I found it. Now I have received a few more hits on the glass. It is a jeep and adds to the character of the jeep. I will get it fixed but it will only last a little while, I drive mostly gravel roads with it.

Add me to the list. Driving behind a contruction vehicle and they lost a bunch of dirt/rocks. Thankfully I pulled him over and after a whole bunch of back/forth and calling the police they paid for a new windshield in full.

Hi, does anyone know how much is a replacement for the left side driver mirror (mechanical)? I don't know if I need the whole thing I drove into a retaining wall and everything fell out of place but the only thing that broke was the glass part. I'm interested in an original replacement like Mopar, but I can't find any prices on the internet. Thank you!

Cracked windshield too on lower corner passenger side. Technician said no fix possible needs to be replace will do so eventually. 100$ deductable. Will wait for springtime.

I replaced the original, seemed to crack easily, from a small chip. The replacement got hit with a big chip a couple weeks after install, and has had the big chip all winter. I assumed it was going to crack and run on me, especially with the cold weather and defroster, etc, but it never has. Now I want it to run so I can get a new one put in, damn it, lol. I keep zero deductible on my glass since with my driving I get new windshields about every year.

I've been using the same folks to replace glass for about 20 years, they always do a good job, and at least as good a seal as original, if not better IMHO. I believe in using a regular glass place, and would never have the dealer or a garage do it. These folks, it's all they do, replace glass, and they do a lot of it, so they really have the most experience. And they warranty all their work. I've never had an issue with their work.

So Sorry to hear this....don't think it will make you feel any better but I had an identical experience tonight driving home from work. Just as you described, got hit with a stone. A large truck was pulling out on the other side of the road and kicked it up. At first it was a ding, and I thought ok not so bad. Then about 60 seconds later, just like you said pop, then crack. Only difference is it is about 70 degrees here today. Like you, mine is only 2.5 months old too. I am going to get it replaced. My only concern is will they be able to replace it with the exact same kind of windshield. I noticed these windshields have like a darker section at the top, possibly for sun glare. I want the exact same type windshield.

May I ask who you use? I am considering a couple companies. If I choose a mobile service option, my insurance company told me I had to pick from 3 - Century Auto Glass, Superior Glass or Advanced Auto Glass. I may just take it to a shop. I took my old Ford to Ryan's a few years back and the windshield has been fine since. I am only concerned that I get an identical windshield

Got authorization from my insurance company this morning for full replacement of the windshield. I told them I wanted the exact type of windshield that is in there now, tinted, black frame, etc. and they authorized ordering from the dealer if necessary. Now I am thinking maybe I made the wrong choice Others on here are saying how the Pats have thin glass in the windshields that crack easy. Should i get a different type? Trying not to get discouraged but this is the second issue in less than 3 months.

My replacement was PPG glass, and better than the original, I think. And made right near here too. Has the same look though, as far as the tint and black at the top.

I use Ryan's Auto Glass, local company, been good for a long time. I've never had a leak, or any issue with their glass.

I actually called Ryan's this morning in Penn Hills. I've used them before and as you said never had a leak after the fact. He told me (miraculously) they had a windshield in stock for a 2010 patriot. So I guess I am getting the exact same kind. Thanks
