Hi everybody,

New guy here. Me and my wife just bought a 08 Patriot North (CVT2 FD2) and absolutely LOVE IT!!! The only issue I've had so far is trying to calibratethe compass. I've gone into the personal settings and tried to change the variance by holding down the button for more that 2 sec. (like the manual says) but the number stays on 8 (I'm in region 3).

I've also gone to the "calibrate compass" in the settings and again held the button for more than 2 sec. but nothing happened.

Should I be driving in a circle and then hold the button??

Any help you guys (and girls) have would be great.

Thanks

My dealership calibrated the compass when they prepped it, so I haven't fiddled with it. Do you know it needs to be calibrated? Perhaps if the dealer did it, there would be no change if you tried and you would think it's not working. Opps... reading back, you stated that the variance number isn't right for the area you live in. I'll have to get out in it tomorrow and check the settings myself, I'll see if I can discover anything about setting it that may help. Stay tuned!

Try this thread It might give you the answer you seek, but that thread isn't updated yet with a result..

I believe the factory setting is 9. I had to change mine to 13 (Atlantic Canada).
There is a map in the owners manual that makes it easy to pick your number. As for the calibration....when I picked my Patriot up, I did notice the calibration light coming on. A couple slow circles in a parking lot fixed it right up.

I just finished washing my Patriot. I haven't forgotten you and am heading out now to check the dang thing. BRB

OK I'm Baaack! I'm SHOCKED,SHOCKED! My dealership calibrated the compass, but didn't set the variation either, so I had a chance to set it. Go into personal settings on the EVIC, work your way over to the compass variation. Mine was set on "8" but my home is in zone "11". Directions say to press the button for two seconds, so that's what I did. Display went to "9". Pressed again, display went to "10". Pressed again and it went to 11. It's important during these steps that you hold down the button for about two seconds each time to get the setting to change. If you just hit the button quickly it will not change the setting and will just go to the next adjustment. I didn't try calibrating the compass since this was done at the dealership.

Good luck!:)

Mine was asking to be calibrated when I first got it. From the factory my variation was set to 9, I changed it to 6 like it should be for my area and then the flashing "CAL" went away. Didn't have to drive in the circle like it said to and it seems to be pretty accurate.
