What are the biggest 17" tire in size we can fit on the Patriot factory 17" rims?

Probably 235/65/17.

My good friend who worked at a Jeep dealer said anything over 215 would rub at full lock. Are you sure 235 won't rub with suspension compressed at full lock?

I have 235/75R15 which is .1" shorter than 235/65R17 but same width and I have no rubbing at all. I don't think you will have a problem.

...Aaand I have 225/65/17 tires that rub on the right side. Perhaps the tolerances are pretty loose when it comes to wheel well dimensions? :)

Yeeaahhh. So what I'm seeing is, with stock everything, the supplied 215/65/17 is probably the largest you can bank on. Meaning the Wrangler SR-A is your only choice for a moderately aggressive tread. That sucks.

How does rubbing just stop? Wouldn't that mean something gave? And, if you're lifted, that changes the dynamic of the conversation...

rubbing stopped because in that time frame did alot of gravel/off-road driving. im guessing i wore the tread down enough that it wasnt touching...even if vehicle is lifted still rubs in same spot as not lifted. had tires on before lift btw.

fulll lock and compressed suspension is common off-road, which is the last place you want to rub-through.

have you checked to see if the strut tower damaged the inside of the tire?

what limits size

i think what limits the tire size on the pat is placement of front strut tower.
only gives couple inches clearance,
anyone know if there is anyone working on lift kit, or aftermarket struts that does something about that?

Dawson I think you're not understanding... not even my 245/65R17's rub the "strut tower". They rub the inner fenderwells / engine splash guard on the rear side of the tires.

The first photo is of my front passenger side that exactly where my 245's rub. These have approximately 1/4" of clearance of the spring catch on the strut which can be seen in the second photo.

Interesting... Who needs splash guards anyway!

Do spacers would help to avoid rubbing? Do spacers should be avoid? What size is fair?

Saw some 245/65/17 mud terrains online at National Tires or Tires Direct or something. BF Goodrich T/A Km2, I think.... (Its 4am and I've done nothing but research the snot out of this site since I got my Pat 48hrs ago)

Anyway. I think after the RR lift, I'm gonna stuff those in, see where it rubs, bang a hammer around, and throw them back on. Maybe 1/2 inch spacers, a rotozip- whatever. somebody's got to screw it up first. =)

I do LOVE the 17" sport wheels I got though. They're def one of the better "stock" premium wheel packages.

Correction- Those BF Goodrich Mud Terrains are actually 245/70's not 245/65's, making them about and inch taller and probably too big.

Two "aggressive" 245/65/17's I've found seem to be the Nitto Terra Grapplers and the Toyo Open Countries... both All-Terrains. Hankook also has some A/Ts that size with great reviews. They're about $130/each, but I can't recall the name.

As far as spacers, it looks like they'd cause clearance issues with the fender openings, but that's just an eye-balled guess.

I think once I have my lift installed and a 1" wheel spacers installed I will be able to fit a 245/70R17 with out any problem I hope cause I want some Goodyear DuraTrac tires for my Patriot I will keep ya'll updated but it might take a while to get the tires ecspecially at $200 ea. (mounted and balanced at Discount Tire). Thats why I need to find some
16" steel rims here in Houston tires for 16" rims are alot cheaper.

im def. going with 235/65/17 hankook AT tires...
