Post in title, this should be an easy first mod. Is anyone running an aftermarket cold air intake? If so, what are your opinions on it compared to OEM? Noticeable differences?

If i'm not mistaking k&n makes a cold air for the newer patriots. I remember it being a bit pricey and I'm not sure of anyone running it on this site?! feel free to purchase one and share the results! I personally want to get a cai, but I find myself doing other mods every time I'm about to get one.

is the k&n the only option for 2011 and up?

From what I have seen yes, that new computer location is pretty bad, and relocation isn't much of an option as the cables themselves are rather short.

You probably could gut the stock airbox and cut holes and open it up similar to the K&N design, and keep the factory location of the computer intact.

Not sure if the K&N CAI is worth almost $300 from the performance aspect. However it probably improves the sound of the engine, might help MPG's slightly, and certainly looks awesome!

I'm fine with my factory intake however with a K&N round filter inside.

usaf: nice to see another NV resident!

I bought my K&N from a local Auto Value. I know the guys there, they can use the business, good folks. The snorkus fits very loosely, if you still have the clips on it, you can set it up there but the air has a little escape right where it feeds into the CAI. I just haven't been using it, seems to work ok like that, and still get good MPG. Here's the receipt from the Auto Value, showing the price I paid for the K&N, and Magnaflow parts.
