Chrysler announced on 4 Feb that Belvidere assembly would be temporarily shut down due to the bankruptcy of one of it's suppliers, Plastech.

Maybe the interior upgrades will come a little sooner than planned...

Interesting. The AP article spun it that Chrysler LLC was shutting down 4 plants because Plastech went into BK, and did briefly mention that Chrysler canceled an order.

This makes it seem like Chrysler shot its own foot off; cancling the order caused Plastech to go Chapter 11, so Chrysler loses a key part of their supply chain and has to shut. Interesting that Chrysler isn't getting parts, but GM is.

No supply chain leader is *that* stupid, so we have to assume Chrysler LLC knew exactly what would happen. Hmmm...if I were conspiracy minded, I'd think that this was a cheap way to get folk off the payroll for a while, before the 2/25 layoffs.

Then again, I've found in the real world that simple stupidity and incompetency beat out evil conspiricys every time.

this isnt' the first time Chrysler has had a problem with a vendor/supplier. we (the dealers) are having a HUGE problem with back-orders right now, and the reason we hear most is that the suppliers are having financial problems. Chrysler even had one supplier close its doors with no warning to the manufacturer, putting the automaker in a world of hurt. Chrysler then had to find a new supplier, re-tool and then start production of the parts. this takes months and in this particular case i mentioned, parts were on back order for over a year.

i commend Chrysler in being aggressive and NOT waiting for these suppliers to hang them out to dry. do this now while new vehicle sales are slow and NOT later when the suppliers will have Chrysler by the 'short-hairs'.

way to go, Chrysler!! :smiley_thumbs_up:

I feel for the workers at the plant.
ditto.....

How can Chrysler seriosly cancel an order if they don´t have a replacement?

That doesn´t sound normal...

My conspiracy:

Chrysler want to show the new Pat interiors at the NADA in 5 days and need new orders with plastic suppliers.
So get rid of the old ones and make new orders. Better quality plastic for the same price at the old one.
"Eat or die" as we would say here in Germany.

I feel bad for those who are still waiting on their orders....:(

As soon as I read this, I called the 800 number to she where mine was at. You have no idea how thrilled I was to find out that she got delivered this morning!

I really do feel bad for those who are now going to have to wait.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Chrysler LLC said Tuesday it reached an interim agreement with supplier Plastech Engineered Products Inc., allowing the automaker to restart production at some of its idled plants. On Monday, Chrysler said it idled four plants in Rockford, Ill., Newark, Del., Sterling Heights, Mich., and Toledo, Ohio, because of supplier problems.

Rends, that may be overkill so to speak. I think a Ma Deuce would be quite effective on deer, large dogs, and traffic miscreants.

I read the article yesterday. I was worried about a serious delay on my order. But seeing as the situation is temporarily resolved and my order is not due until Feb 16 (at the earliest). A few extra days wait aren't going to kill me.

I called my dealer to ask about my car and this shutdown. He did a quick search for my VIN and said my car was still due to ship on Feb. 12. Since my dealer is only 100 miles or so from the assembly plant hopefully I will see my car by mid month.

If they can skip the step of traveling by train across the country, I'm sure it speeds things up. I used to live across the street from an auto loading area for Burlington Northern in St.Paul MN. It seemed some of the cars would sit for weeks before they were loaded on a train and moved away. Likewise, cars from elsewhere would sit after the train brought them in before a truck came to collect them and deliver them to dealers. Does anyone know how Belvidere works? Do they load directly onto trains at the plant, or do they go truck, train, truck?
