My diesel patriot has had a flat battery now on 2 occasions, yet the car is only 1 year old. Looking for a phantom draw for when the car has been left for a couple of days, it seems to be ?? the removable torch has slipped slightly out of the back door housing.... Has this led to some shorting and battery drain?? has anyone else had this problem? Any other ideas? Not left a console light on or anything like that etc...

Thanks for thoughts

Check its not the Crap Chrysler battery that was fitted at the Factory. They lasted about 10 mins. Get it checked & replaced under warranty. Our Import models were retrofitted with Optima Red Tops( Or should have been)

There have been lots of problems with OEM batterys in North America , if fitted to Caliber / Compass/ Patriot. The UK Batt should be stronger fitted to the Diesel model.

Or it could be a drain........

Where do you get that information? Or does that only apply to diesel engine models? Because the battery that went dead on me was a Chrysler OEM one and not an Optima...

I've discussed the possibility of getting an Optima battery before next winter (as I am currently running a what was available on a Saturday afternoon special), but the guy I discussed this with claimed running the Optima would require rigging a different method of securing it in place. How is your Optima mounted? Also, how big is it? How many ampere hours? (A model number will suffice, no need to go digging for a tape measure or anything. :) )

Mine came allready fitted with Optima Red Top, not the OEM thing they start life with. Calibers also had probs with OEM batts, but my UK spec Caliber also came fitted with an Optima red Top......I've had no probs with the Optima! I'll check out specs later....

Daimler/Chrysler--Optima Red Top.

Part/Catalogue No. 4868999AC

CCA ( En) 715

CCA ( Sae) 700

AH ( En Sae) 50

Thats all the info on top label of Battery!

Also, are you running aftermarket aux lights or foglights or aftermarket stereo? Anything aftermarket electrical could be causing a large draw due to a bad install or drawing too much juice that the alternator can't keep up with. My buddy with a Ford pickup is running aux lights and a big nav/stereo system and had to switch to an optima battery, now he's fine.
