I thought that Freedom Drive I was an option, but here in Canada, when you buy a 4X4, it's automatically FD I. I have the 2009.
I want to know if FD1 was an option in 2007-2008...

base model 4x2, freedomI = 4x4 with manual transmission, Freedom II = 4x4 with off road capacities and automatic transmission.

Yes FreedomI was an option in 07-08

You are partially correct.

The Freedom Drive I (FDI) is the standard 4x4 platform and comes with either a CVT2 or a 5 speed manual transaxle. The reason they say FDI is an option is the base Patriot is only 4x2, not 4x4. So if you want a 4x4 you much choose between the FDI and FDII. One additional confusing factor is how they named the transmission options so do not get the CVT2 and the CVT2L confused as the CVT2L comes only in the Freedom Drive II (FDII) and the L stands for low gear.

In my comment I said CVT2L which is the name of the transmission not the indicators on the shifter. So, I personally will not answer that. I will however refer you to your owners manual... or allow an autostick guy answer this. I just do not want to steer you wrong and I am not sure how they label the autosticks. Sorry, but I am a 5 speed kinda guy... I row my own.
