So I have an early build 2007 Jeep Patriot that I've prior replaced the alternator on twice. I'm convinced the original alternator was poor quality in the dog days of the auto industry, the idler pully's and tensioner pullys failed as well with about 55k miles the replacement was a used one and I believe similar things happened there.
Recently in December (2012) I replaced the original OEM battery, my latest alternator was an OEM takeoff not an aftermarket model. There weren't any of the tell tale bearing grinding noises of an all out alternator failure like my last two.
Today the Jeep was running fine around town, and suddenly when it was attempted to be started the Patriot did not start. Generally there is enough power for radio / lights even if the battery is low. This is something different, the vehicle has absolutely no power to anything.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
