I'm almost at 3,000 miles and I'm going Friday for my 1st oil change. Rather be safe than sorry. I have never had a new jeep or car before so I was curious also.
Well....Toronto here. Owners manual says 10,000, the dealer put a sticker on the window saying 5,000.
I showed up @ 5,000, and the service manager says 10,000. I told them someone there put the sticker on, he said well you dont really need it and you can go.., I said I left work early so you might as well do it and asked if he can come up with any other surprises before i leave.
The owner's manual says no more than 6000 miles. To me, that says anything up to it will keep it in warranty coverage. The Patriot also has an oil change indicator that should tell you when it thinks it wants fresh oil, so mostly I plan to go by that.
I'm at 3800 and still no change. I don't worry about it- nowadays oil is high quality and won't wear out at 3000 miles, and so long as you use a quality filter, 5000 miles is perfectly OK (that's the recommendation on my wife's Acura for the "severe duty" maintenance schedule).
When mine dings at me, I'll call the dealer and set up the appointment.
I got a call from the dealership to schedule my "very important" first change & look-over for mid January which is when they anticipate that I will have reached 6000 mi.
GTA here as well.. I am not near my Patriot at the moment to check the manual but I believe we Torontonians are on the severe service list and as I recall that places us in the every 5000km bracket. My wife's 98 Cherokee is on the 10,000 km six month list.
I am pretty sure that when the jeep rep wenmt over thing swith me he said that it would be every 10,000 kms. i wrote in to jeep to get a definative answer as I have 2500 kms on the jeep.
Our "oil change" light just flashed us this week (actually, I just noticed it this morning) and I am only at 2500 miles. I wonder why that is, considering everyone else seems to be around the 5,000 to 6,000 mile range (or in some cases, longer)?
I'm calling the service dept. tomorrow and find out exactly what's going on.
Mine also went at 2500 miles. Dealer said it was set for that and he could change it if I wanted but I'm fine with changing oil every 3000 miles. I think 6000 miles is just too much.
When it comes to new cars, it's always nice to get an oil change at 1,000 miles. Just to get a first hand idea of what's going on with it, etc. Otherwise, every 5,000 miles seems to work nicely.
Had my Pat for a month and already have near 3K on it! With the job, I anticipate 3K a month, so this is either an oil change/month or every two. I'm gonna go see a dealership and find out. I checked the oil today (2850mi) and it looked brand new! So I don't really think I need to change it yet. We'll see.
Ours goes in on Tuesday for the first service 10,000km which will include the 1st oil and oil filter change. Our log book shows service intervals for CRD's at 10,000km and Petrol models at 12,000km. Dealer placed a sticker also on the window 6 months or 10,000km as per the manual.
I have phoned every dealer in Perth just to ask what the intervals for the CRD are and they all said 10,000km so I'm sticking to it.
Funny thing is that this same engine is in our VW Jetta MKV and VW and Audi service interval is 15,000km or 6 months.
I wonder what has been changed between Jeep and VW's set up?
The only concern I have with running the 10,000km oil change, is the size of our filters.....they are pretty small. If they plug up with gunk and crap, you will have dirty oil circulating through your engine.
I'd really like to find a wider and longer filter for our Jeeps.
The oil changes for the petrol cars seems quite early, my diesel needs changes every 9000miles, which I find odd because it is a VW engine, and I had the same engine in an Audi A4 I owned previously and its changes were every 20,000 miles!!! so why the huge difference???
my light came on over the holidays - I'm only at 4100km - Should I take it in?
I've tried to reset the Change oil warning it as it says in the manual, but i can't get it to work.
Also, my Tire Pressure warning light is on and won't go off
It is very cold here, but the tire pressures are correct. Could there be something wrong with the computer?
many members erred on the low side for the first change because their JEEP may have sat in the lot for a while but i see you have a MY2010. my 2 cents get it changed.
TPMS seems a little sensitive in some cases, put in 35 psi and see what happens (checking with a pressure gauge you trust)
niblips - to quote you if you think it is a "ST" instead of a dealership then just go to a mechanic that your family and friends trust. No need for a "ST"ealership for a basic oil change.
Im confused reading this,I got my brand new jeep patriot 2litre diesel end of october, here in scotland uk,I have a paper from the dealer stating the first service is at 9,000 miles.Usually you would have an early oil change less than 1000 miles just to check it over, most cars bikes ive had,so does anyone think an oil light will come on??I was gonna change the engine oil and filter at about 2000 miles anyway for its first time, its a volkswagen engine so the oil and new filter is probably about 30 quid,i think first oil/filter change should be under 3000 miles.:smiley_thumbs_up:
Mine is an '08, and I was told to change every 3,000-3,500 miles, so that's what I've been doing, which is the same as I do for my other 2 vehicles as well. I've never seen an oil change indicator, so not sure if I have one, or I just change it before it comes on?
Not quite a year and a half old, and I have 34,000 miles on it, so I've had about 11 oil changes so far. When the weather is good I do it myself, but it's not been good much this year, lol.
I changed mine at 690 miles and figured 3000 more for the first scheduled service. I got the "Change Oil" message at 3673, 17 miles early! I was told that the engine sensors detect when the oil needs to be changed, regardless of miles. I had them put Mobil 1,
5w20 in and they told me with 100% synthetic oil I can go 6000 miles, or less if I get the change oil message.
