Bought a 2009 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited this weekend.

This will be taking over as the main off road vehicle and my Patriot will be going to my fiancé.

Nice! What's that white stuff on the ground?! It's almost May.

Sent from my Nexus 7
Tell me about it.

Snow storm hit the Prairies. There was a decent amount of snow that we got. I went from 16*C to snow in under 400km drive.

More pictures once we brought it home!

I averaged 25 mpg(UK) over a 500km trip. Pretty pleased but that was going down hill and with a strong wind at my back. I can't expect that every time (I will wish though). This is the first time I have traveled over 500km on a single tank of fuel with a vehicle of mine so I was pretty thrilled. Having a big gas tank (86L) is wonderful, so much more security if you plan on going out into the country. The Patriot really needs a bigger gas tank.

Pictures of the brothers!

I took the Wrangler to a favourite spot of mine just East of Moose Jaw and was comparing how it handles what my Patriot did.

Conditions were obviously different. Somethings were softened and rounder. Some things were steep and muddy.

Overall I have to say driving stick off road takes a lot more skill than an auto and I can understand the pleasure of having an auto while rock crawling. I stalled out a couple of times and had a good smell of clutch after one part. The Wrangler did go up some places that my Patriot didn't. One spot for sure got tougher than when I tried and failed with my Patriot and I made it up in low range with a lot of skinny pedal in the Wrangler.

I definitely want to take my Patriot back out there though and give all that stuff a try. I do want to take the Patriot out still.

I am surprised with how much my Patriot did though and am still learning even though I have the "all mighty" Wrangler.

**Going to need to get some rock rails on the Wrangler though. Scrapped a bit today.

Where I want to go with my Wrangler - Dream Build

I think I have figured out where I want to see my Wrangler eventually.

I watched this video and I love the front bumpers on those Rubicons.

I figure I want to go 35" tires with a 2.5" lift and those steel bumps.
If anyone doesn't want to watch the video here is a quick picture, sort of showing the bumper

And just for fun something similar to what I am thinking (just the bumper).

Fun Comparison

Kept all the wheels on the ground.

The wheelbase of the Wrangler Unlimited is a bit of a bummer sometimes. A 2 door Wrangler would be crazy capable. I guess I will just have to get a lift and bigger tires then.

Very nice! My dream jeep is a JKU, well unless I hit the lottery, then I'll get an ICON.

I drive way too many miles now for the lower MPGs though, but I should retire in 10 years, or less, and then I'll get one.

Still undecided on buying a Rubicon, or a pretty stock one and build myself.

I haven't noticed too big of difference in the MPGs between my Patriot and this Wrangler so I am finding it hard to see why not. But I have only ran one tank of fuel through it and that was downhill a bit with a wind at my back and I got 25mpg(uk). But we will see. I expect around 11-12 L/100km and that is around what my Patriot is getting.

In favor of being topless!

Took the hard top off in favor of the soft top.

The benefits of a soft top is to be topless with relative ease. Makes the experience pretty fun!

My brother's new-to-him 2011 JKR. He traded in his 2010 sport. He is pretty pumped about it. He also was changing to his soft top.
