Just curious why you installed the hitch if you don't plan on towing anything?Lol. What about you for the oil cooler?
I installed the hitch for my bike rack. I don't have anything to tow so the harness wasn't a priority. I started a thread on the oil cooler not that long ago and most people said it's not necessary if the Patriot isn't used for towing over 1k lbs. I might install it once it's time to change the fluid. Still haven't decided

Ohhh that makes sense. Yeah I'll look into an oil cooler.

I got my Curt class III hitch installed today. Wasn't too bad to install once the heatshield and that canister on the frame rail is removed. What is that canister thing on the driver side frame rail in the rear?

I'll get some pictures imported tomorrow. I just have some after photos. I really need to start taking before and during photos.

I just need to install the plug and play harness for the lights. Moving in 2 weeks so we'll see how she hauls with the little 4 cylinder.

That was the vapor canister.

Which harness did you end up buying? Do you have to run it to the battery?
Yes. Everything else but the ground is plug and play with the rear taillight harness. Seems easy enough. I'll be doing that in the morning and can get a few detailed pics if you'd like. Or did you already install yours?

I haven't even bought mine yet. Just watched the install video on etrailer.com of T-One harness. Looks like all of them need to be routed to the battery.
That's the video that helped me get it done today. It was actually very easy for the harness, just tedious since I'm a perfectionist. I used quite a few zip ties on the power wire to the battery. I was worried the wire will get in the way of something so I took my time.

Also forgot to mention that I installed my fumoto oil drain valve last weekend too! Just that much easier draining the oil now! :D

Here's a few pics I've taken recently.

The new drain valve

Here's where I mounted the ground cable and the converter box (behind the drivers side tail light)

I love how the battery terminal already has an extra post for the harness power!

Here's where I mounted the fuse - zip tied on the metal bracket.

So many wires coming out from the bumper fascia, where do they all go?!?!? LOL

Here's how I hid the extra wire. I know it's hard to tell where this is, but it's under the bumper looking up to the hitch. I zip tied the harness to the top/back of the hitch, then just winded up the rest and zip tied the excess and it sits nicely in the bumper.

And here's the finished product. I've already hooked up a trailer and the lights worked great first try! All blinkers and stop lights! Success! This is an old stinger I had laying around. I will be buying a new one soon with a little higher raise, maybe 4 inches.

Thanks for looking!

I was reading some old posts yesterday and apparently there is a tow harness tucked behind the rubber grommet on the driver side. It eliminates running the hot wire all the way to the battery. Etrailer also sells a bracket to mount the plug so it doesn't have to hang freely.

Not sure what you're referring to. I did need to run the power wire to the battery. There isn't one from the factory. It wasn't hard at all to wire though. I was thinking about a plug, but my trailers wire harness is too short so I need to be able to pull extra wire to hook it up. I don't mind it free hanging though.

If and when you install yours, I'll check out what you meant if you take photos of the install.

I'll need to check mine now. Pretty sure I didn't have that.

Also, the converter box requires a 10 amp fuse. I wonder what amperage fuse that hot wire is going to.

According to NHPATRIOT, it's 20 amp.

2 - I used the factory tow harness wire that is behind the driver's side tail light wiring harness grommet. My only concern is how thin that wire is. Not sure what kind of draw will be on it? I think in say a couple weeks I might pull the housing and grommet out to check it and see if I can detect any signs of overload? I know that is the factory hook up spot but I am not sure what kind of draw this aftermarket kit has? The factory circuit has a 20 AMP fuse though and the T-ONE kit uses a 10 AMP on the power wire feed so I believe it will be ok.
