My wife doesn't like the armrests, too hard for her. She loves her Camry, I love my Patriot, vive la difference!

i dont have a problem with the center one.

it's the one on the door! ouch.

http://www.automotiveinteriors.com/accessories/interior/armrests/roadrest.htm

i think a member has them.

wonder how they would do?

the armrester. on the bottom of the page...
PA, isn't either Neil or Quasi that has one of those padded rests?
I can't help but think if someone could come up with a replacement arm rest (both sides and center!) then they are going to make a bunch of money. It just doesn't seem to me that it would be hard for someone who is handy with upholstery. Anyone?

It is in the works. In my head anyway.

The quick fix would be to staple gray vinyl, cloth or leather over a foam rubber coated block of wood cut to the correct shape to match horizontal section of the arm rest.

I have some big plans for an upgrade to my door panels. However, it will take me some time to actually do it. One thing I need is running yardage of the 2 kinds of vinyl used on my interior.

i am going to look at advanced auto, lowes, home depot and wal mart today to see if i can come up with a decent answer.

i think just a foam rubber piece cut to specs then attached to the door armrest would do it.

if i come up with anything, i'll let us know.

well, at wally world they did have felt pads.
4.5"x6"

self stick back.

making a templet of the hard area of the door armrest would work.

i think a member is working on a more custom fix.

looking at it, it would only take about a 1/4" rubber or foam pad cut for that area with a adheavise back.

put it on. done.

maybe some kind of color match?

if a member or company come's thru, they will sell...

I got one of those road rest pads in my jeep and love it. they don't fit up buy the window like there designed to because the patriot door are to thick for the way there designed. what I did was this, they come with a self sticking piece of foam for doors that aren't thick enough. I stuck that two the armrest and placed it there and it works great. it will slide off once in a while when opening the door to fast but that could be cured with some double sided tape I'm sure. cheap fix for a painful problem.

Can you show us a photo?

I made one from a geniune imitation Australian sheepskin shoulder belt pad I bought from Walmart. $6.00 US. Cut it to shape, with slight roll over. Used some velcro strips to hold it in place. Looks fine. Nice tan color. Matches the interior. Nice and compfy. I comb it occasionally to spruce it up. I posted this a few weeks ago in reply to someone. Don't remember the name.

Not that mine bothers me, but when the opportunity arises, I always like to play engineer...

Try this. Purchase a mouse pad with a rectangular gel filled wrist protector. With scissors, cut the pad away from the wrist protector keeping about a 1/4" border. Fix the wrist protector to your door's arm rest with double sided tape, or velcro strips... Easy fix...

Anyone know if the '09 armrests will fit the '08s yet?
I can't see why not, I dont see them putting a whole lot of effort into drastically changing the interior, I was supprised about the dash. I am sure all they did to doorpanels was add foam and recess the door locks. I think the center piece detatches from the door panel you could probably just buy that.
I found this thread on installing door looks, that section is removable. doorlocks

The armrests have been made softer for the 2009 Model Compass & Patriot.
Cost delta to trade in 2007 MK on a 2009 equivalent model: $8-10k. New door panels and center armrest, how much???

It would not surprise me if the 2009 center armrest does not fit. Really, all we need is the hinged part, though. That is more likely to interchange to -08 models. I agree with some others, though the center console does not bother me. It's the door panel. Between the lock poking me and the hard plastic, my left arm/elbow is all beat up.

Not to be contrary but I like the hard armrest on the door. On both my Civic and my Nissan truck the soft armrest ended up split and a little saggy. Evidently I lean on the rest sometimes. My armrest can be uncomfortable but I have been looking around for a soft pad to sticky tape to the rest.
