Factory vs Aftermarket...

Hey everyone!

I am looking at getting a Pat, and was wondering about getting things like the BA sound system and nav from factory, or getting a more base model and adding an aftermarket sound system and nav?

go aftermarket on both, the nav isn't amazing for the price, and the BS system you need to worry about blown speakers, and all that fun stuff... on the up side though, if either goes, they would be covered under warranty with factory.

Yeah I would leave out the factory NAV also. Alot better NAV systems out there for equal/lesser money. As far as the BA system goes I liked it an decided on getting it. For the money it provides more than enough bass and it saved me time on installing aftermarket equipment.

I would agree that there are alot of better aftermarket NAV systems out there. I got the factory in dash because I often park in Philadelphia and if I have an aftermarket system I can't leave it in the car--well I guess I could if I wanted to pay to fix the window they bash in to steal it and then buy another one.

I do the same (Parking on Philadelphia Streets) and take mine with me. My fiance usually just jams it in her purse and I slide it in the inside pocket of my jacket.

As I noticed- best deal is portative NAV system. YOu can put it on the dashboard, you can slide it in your pocket if you're camping. You can easily update software and maps by yourself etc. And- it is muchmuch cheaper!
Of course- it values the car, but believe me- your car price DOES NOT exactly depend of what your have inside. You can put some really nice extras in the car, you can spend lot of money- but if you're selling your car, the buyer just do not value your spendings and says- Thats nice, give me an BIG discount too and then you have a deal! Having just attention to your car- this is the point, nothing more.

i would go with the base model stereo then upgrade from there because you can choose whatever kind of dvd/nav system because the jeep console is double din. all you need is wiring harnesses and its pretty much plug and play except for you will need dash kit, and amp wiring kit if your installing subwoofers

I like the factory nav system. I would have def gotten that pioneer one that everyone gets (its VERY affordable too) had I gotten the stock system.

as far as speakers go, i might just go get some infinity kappas, and figure out how to squeeze the crossovers in there

I advise getting the least expensive radio options they have and then buying all aftermarket.

I ended up getting the Boston acoustics package figuring it would satisfy me. I have always been into car audio and my last car had good speakers in it, so I figured the upgraded system would be good. It's decent, but not worth the money if you want really good sound.

I ended up replacing the entire sound system in my 08 Patriot Limited. The only thing I kept was the stock sub which now has a separate amp running to it. I may end up replacing the sub also.

I sold my NAV radio and bought a Kenwood DNX5120 http://www.kenwoodusa.com/Car_Entertainment/Mobile_Video_n_Navigation/Navigation/DNX5120

I use the NAV a lot because I drive for work. I also wanted a DVD player. The Kenwood has a Garmin GPS which is the best. It will also control an ipod or read a hard drive.

Btw, my wife was TOTALLY PISSED that I insisted on paying more for the Limited so I could get all the options including the NAV radio and upgraded speakers. Then sold it all... :doh:

Also, the upgraded speaker system just adds the sub and the tailgate speakers. The door speakers are the same as the standard system which is part of the problem.
