I actually like the look of this new Jeep in all its trim levels that have been shown so far. With the new Cherokee, I really only gravitate towards the "Trail Hawk" version. On Allpar, it looks like a lot of its offroad specs are similar to the Patriot. It does have a dedicated low range on the Trail Hawk vs. the Patriots CVT2L option, but the crawl ratio isn't much different at 20.1:1 in low vs. the Patriots 19:1. I also like how the roof rails/rack runs the whole length of the roof. If Jeep/Mopar had ever made the roof rack/rails that were shown on the numerous Patriot Concept versions over the years, I would have bought it first thing. The "My sky" roof is also cool, hopefully it won't have the problems that I had with the "Sky Slider" roof that was in my 2008 Liberty. That thing was a nightmare. I would be surprised if the Renegade is the replacement for the Patriot/Compass though. If you look at sales figures for both the Compass/Patriot combined, since they are technically the same car/class, I think they are even outselling the Wrangler (based on figures I saw posted on Allpar). Assuming that the MK's eventual replacement is going to be just 1 model, I wouldn't think that Chryser would want to have to import that many units. Then again, the thought could be that some buyers would step up to the Cherokee, while others would downsize to the Renegade. Hopefully, the "Trail Hawk" version won't be too expensive. My only issue with some of the "newer" Jeeps, is in order to get a "Trail-rated" model, you are really have to spend a lot more $$$ than on the standard models. The Patriot/Compass could be optioned with the FDII package for very little extra cost, even on the sport models. The Liberties with 4WD were Trail-rated as-is (except for the Jet edition). Both the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee's cost a good bit more in order to get one that is considered "trail-rated". And at those prices, it would be hard for me to even want to get them dirty. Hopefully a trail-rated Renegade will break that trend. I look foward to seeing it in person, and seeing some reviews.

It's a small vehicle so I would bet the 1.4L Multiair Turbo or 2.0L Tigershark with the 6 speed manual or 6 speed auto. Not sure if there would be enough room under the hood for the ZF 9 speed. I would guess the low range gearing would come from the PTU like is found in the new Cherokee not from the transmission like is found in the Patriot/Compass. Any thoughts?

Looks like my guesses on powertrain options was very educated :)

2.4 Tigershark with 9 speed auto
1.4 turbo with 9 speed auto
And 6 speed manuals standard on both.

A FWD 1.4 with the 9 speed should get around 35mpg highway and mid 20s in the city, at least that's my guess ;)

I read the autoweek release on this thing, it said that it's supposed to be above the Patriot, but below the Cherokar. Confusing at first considering size, then i remembered that an old Willys could probly out-mud even AIC(no offense intended) despite being half the size of the Patriot.....maybe less.

I'm also warming to the look of it, and I'm surprised to see they are offering a 2.4l version of it. The interior cargo space is a bit less then I expected, but it does seem like a big enough little SUV for a couple or single person to live with.

That Allpar article is pretty interesting. Sounds like they only expect to sell about 130,000 of them a year worldwide, with most of that outside of the US. So from a sales standpoint they don't expect it to replace the Patriot and Compass, who between them sell about 125,000 in the US alone last year.

When Mrs. Kah saw this new Jeep, she instantly fell in love with it.

I saw the Cherokee this weekend. Didn't like it. Just old fashion I guess but Jeeps were meant to be boxy. This is boxy all though a bit "Soul-ish". The interiors are very nice from the pictures.

When did I read it "possibly" hitting the markets? March???
I am sure the cherokee is a fine vehicle but its looks are hideous I have no idea what they were thinking, makes the prefacelift compass look good. This Renegade looks great tho.

Now they just need to tell us pricing and rear seat dimensions...
This kinda sucks:
Renegade Chero Patriot
Rear Legroom 35.1 40.3 39.6

The new pics, like the red ones, look much better than the first few leaked ones.

Actually, the Zero was kicking our a$$es all over the map. We had to reassemble a downed one that was crashed in Alaska and fly it to figure out how it worked so well and how we could fight against it.

Back to the Jeep. I think this Renegade is going to be a hit. The Kia Soul/Nissan Cube/Honda Fit crowd will be all over this, if they need a real, capable 4X4. The 1.4 turbo and 6 speed manual will be a HOOT in this if that's what they end up using mostly.

There's folks here that have been waiting for something smaller than our Pats. This seems to be the answer. I even like the looks. Jeep-look with a fancy interior. I also like the idea they didn't broad brush the new GC/Compass swoopy front end on the thing.
Jeep has been controlled or outright owned by France (Renault) who was our enemy in WWI and Germany (Daimler Benz) before. The MK platform was from the German era, wasn't it? Yet you own one? :D

Holy cow! It'll tow up to 3000 pounds!...plus more hip, shoulder and leg room than the Pat........
You'll note the specs listed are 0-3000, which makes me wonder if that high number refers to one of the high torque diesel engines NA isn't getting. We're only getting the 1.4l and 2.4l gas engines.

As far as availability, Allpar has an interview with Sergio where he notes production on the Renegade doesn't start until July, meaning we probably won't see any on US lots until the fall at the earliest.
