I'm looking to buy Toyo ATII extremes for my Patriot.
I have 17 inch wheels at the moment but id like to get a set of 16s so i could have a bit more rubber on top of the rim.

with a set of 16s what wound be the best size for me?

I was thinking 245/65/R16

Let me know if anyone has tried this before

245s will require spacers although the overall diameter is only 28.5 you may get away with it. Its likely they will rub, I don't think anyone has run that size before. 225/75/16 works with no spacers but does rub a bit. 225/70/16 shouldn't rub.

spacers will depend what rims you get. If you get rims with a low offset then you shouldn't need spacers.
x2, if you are getting new rims, get ones with 4" of back spacing, and you shouldn't need to run spacers. Several people have run a 235 wide tire with no issue. If you find a tire calculator, anything under 28.5" total diameter should work. without much, if any rub. Most likely place to rub is either the inner fender at full lock, or the stupid pinch weld in the back of the wheel well.
