full-size spare questions

Is the size of the optional full-size spare the same for all Patriots regardless of whether they came with 16" or 17" wheels?

Is the optional full-size spare aluminum or steel?

I have the standard 16" steel wheels on my patriot. The full size spare is the identical tire but on a basic black rim. I was disappointed as I wanted to do a 5 tire rotation. I will just buy a steel rim to match the car.

I don't know on the 17" rims but would guess that it is the same as the profile is lower.

Same tire as on the cars but on a black steel rim. FYI it is not too difficult to take out. Jeep put insulation below the tire to prevent rattling. Only need to clear a small lip near the hatch. Did this today to snap pictures of the hitch install.

That IMO is a rip-off. To me, that is one of the benefits of a 5th full size tire. to work it into the rotation. If it's not on the same rim, it mostly defeats the purpose. Now I don't feel so bad about not getting the full size spare.

Hey it doesn't matter to me if its a black rim...I will gladly take a full size spare over any doughnut size tire. Those small tires are just not safe to drive on. So you cant do a rotation with it. Oh well...I chose safety over looks any day. I myself will look at finding a 5 spoke 17in to match my other four at some point in time. But like I said not really important.

More importantly a full sized spare lets you get off the trail. A temporary spare will not.

If one of the tires on your good wheels get ruined, the full size spare lets you get home with a full service tire, and then you can get it put on your good rim with the bad tire and keep your three remaining good tires on the ground. Or you can buy a pretty wheel or two from someone who has replaced their stock wheels and do a five tire rotation or a six tire roatation if you are old school and want to keep the tires on the same side of the car.

FWIW and YMMV. :)

Can anyone tell me what the size is of the "full size spare"?

The reason I ask is mine is slightly smaller than the 205/70 R16 stock tires and I am thinking I did not get the full size spare I was supposed to.

What size is it then????

is it in the regular spare-well, or is it on the outside like most jeeps?
Inside, under the back cargo area, suz.

My wife actually liked the look of a spare on the outside but I'm kinda glad we don't have it (just personal aesthetics preferences I guess). Isn't the Pat the only jeep to not have that option??
