A little blurb on the front page of the Motoring section in yesterday's Vancouver Province had a picture of a Riot with a caption something like "Green rebates for fuel-efficient Patriots"... however, there was nothing more about it within that section.

Anyone know anything about this??

Okay, interesting... found this: http://www.tc.gc.ca/programs/environment/ecotransport/2008ecoautoeligibility.htm

It lists the 4x2 in both 5-speed and CVT models, but only the 5-speed for the 4x4. And of course, I have the 4x4 CVT. WTF?
The 4X4 option with the CVT does not meet the required fuel economy requirements to qualify. I believe that the fuel effeciency rating is 9.5 L/100 KM. Kinda sucks for us, but the government does not like to give our tax dollars away unless you are a special interest group or a fellow politician. (OK, I am off the soapbox now)

Okay, see, this is what confuses me... we looked at the 4x2 specifically because of the concern of lower fuel economy in the 4x4, and the fact that we initially thought it would be substantially cheaper. The salesman noted that both versions had exactly the same fuel economy ratings... and the spec sheet he showed us backed that up.

This kinda pisses me off, because he was much more insistent on selling use the 4x4 FDI he had on the lot rather than bringing in an otherwise-almost-identical 4x2 FDI from another dealer. The *listed identical* fuel economy and the fact that the 4x2 would have saved barely $1000 over the 4x4 was what swung the vote... NOW I find out that the 4x2 would have garnered us an additional $1000 rebate, and that the salesdroid never mentioned the availability of this rebate *at all*, I'm just a tad miffed.

i'm not sure the 4x2 CVT gets that rebate, according to others on here. Hopefully others will chime in.

Edit: Found it myself. The CVT/2.0L combo gets that rebate, which is only availible in the 4x2 drivetrain. Only 2.4L rebates are the 5-spds.

We got ours on a no-PST/no-GST sale, so got that part covered...

The part that gets me is, that while our particular Pat isn't listed, it would have been nice to know that other versions - including the one the salesdroid talked us out of - are. And it amazes me that any car salesdroid worth his salt would be fully knowledgeable about any possible rebates that would apply to the vehicles he's selling. If I'd gone to, say, a Toyota dealership and learned that there was this "green rebate" on, just for the sake of argument, an FJ... that Jeep salesman might have lost the sale by not knowing that such a rebate was available.

I believe that you still pay PST and GST, the dealer just takes it off his cost. If you look at your contract perhaps you will still find that PST has been paid but credited elsewhere. In any case I just came home and opened a $1000 PST refund from the BC Government. My dealer did not know about the BC PST rebate...I had to tell them after I discovered it snooping around the Government Internet sites. The Federal program is not a GST rebate so you can still apply for it. Oh, my Pat is a 2.4 5-speed.

Hey Soundy, what do you do for a living?

Here are the qualifying 2008 Pats for the $1000 BC PST credit:
2 x 4 - 2.4L, 5 speed
2 x 4 - 2.0L, CVT
4 x 4 - 2.4L, 5 speed
Yeah, same models as apply for the "green rebate". 4x4 CVT not included. Which again, is what pisses me off, because we were initially looking at the 4x2 CVT, because we figured it would have better gas mileage and the salesdroid figured it would cost $3000 less... when he actually ran the numbers, he said it was only $1000 less, and pointed out on the spec sheets that it got the same gas mileage as the 4x4... so he managed to push us into the 4x4 that he had on the lot rather than the 4x2 that he'd have to bring in.

Soundy, the salesman was partially correct. The 2.4L 2WD CVT does get about the same FE as the 2.4L CVT 4WD with a cost delta about about $1500USD. Neither get the green credit! Only the 2.0L CVT 2WD does, which gets about 2mpg better than the 2.4L CVT.
