I wonder what should be the odometer reading on a brand new Patriot when I pick it up at the dealer. When I picked up my Ford few years ago it had about 30km on the odometer and I thought to myself that it is in a way too much.I don't think it should be more than 3 - 5 km [2 - 3 miles].I realize they may drive the car a little when parking at the manufactureres lot before shiping and then again at the delaer's.Are there any guidlines about the milege on a new car?

Sometimes the factory will test drive a randomly selected vehicle coming off the line.. which may put up to 15 miles (25km) on it, while others will have only negligible miles, having not been test driven....your dealer may also need to put some mileage on the vehicle by taking it for gas or driving it to service etc...

..in my experience I have had ordered vehicles come with as little as 3 miles (5km) and as high as 25km (15 mi)....

Also....if it's like mine, it was the first one the dealer got. Every sales associate and manager wanted to take it for a spin! :)

It had 30 miles on it. I was happy, as I figured if something was really wrong like they dropped a screw into the transmission during the build it would have shown up by then.

Of course the one I bought had 178 or almost the exact mileage from South Carolina

It can be all over the place. I think that it depends upon the particular state the dealership is in. In NY it appears to be acceptable to disconnect the odometer on a new vehicle when transporting it (by driving it) from one in-state dealership to another.

Mine had 298. It was the first one on the lot. Also, they transported it to another dealership in error, which cost about 100 miles. The day I purchased, I must have seen 10 different people test drive it. I am ok with the mileage. It certainly won't matter in a year.

I met the person who drove my Pat from S.C. to my dealership. He was a retired Ford worker and has shuttled cars for the dealer for many years. The dealer also put the titled mileage higher than the actual as they did not have the exact mileage at the time.
