hey all,

i'm new here, didn't bother going to the newbie check in. thought i'd get right down to it. has anybody heard of a rear swing arm for the spare tire? i know there are tons for the wranglers. i can't seem to find any for the patriot.

Yes, the Patriot might have some issues because of the rear bumper.
However, I have a thought that came to mind.
On vehicles with hitches, have a bracket that fits into the hitch and then goes up.
The tire then mounts on the bracket.
The bracket would have a hinge and a pin.
You pull the pin and the tire would fall backwards allowing the hatch to be opened.
This would give you max room for a trip
 
looking in to having these made...

very good friend of mine (he's the one that got me interested in Jeeps to begin with) is big-time into serious rock crawling. He is partners in a small business manufacturing semi-custom Jeep bumpers, sliders, and skid plates. I'm going to have lunch with him next week and let him look at my Pat. to see if he can come up with a design for a spare tire mount. I'm thinking it may require drilling through the rear bumper cover :eek: but I'm not sure. He may be able to come up with some brackets that attach under the bumper and go around the plastic bumper cover and hold a swing-out tire bracket. I'll see what we can come up with.
