Ford dealer will have more chance to move it, also what were you trading on? If it was a more expensive vehicle, you'll get offered more trade-in they hide the difference in what they actualy take off the vehicle, a Patriot is a cheaper vehicl and just doesn't have that much rom to move, also did you discuss the price on the Pats? how much they would move or seem to move? Did you hear the 12000 and not move and not do any negotiating? 14000 seems high since the place I bought my Patriot from also sells Fords and brand new 08 4 cyclinders (not base models either, had the 17 inch rims, etc), for just over 18k (they price all their cars 57 below invoice, you keep the rebate yadda, yadda)..

Buying a car can be a game that's for sure, give it time. Of course if it becomes anything like it has been here recently I wouldn't expect much more as the local dealers here can't keep Patriots on their lot.

Well I hope you get the deal you're waiting for ! I wasn't trying to be sarcastic, just reflecting on the grim reality of auto depreciation. It Sucks! After I bought my first Pat for the wife, I have been flirting with the notion of a second one for yours truly !!! The one "BIG" thing that stands in the way is unloading my '04 Ram 1500. I bought it at a GREAT price, however that doesn't mean I wanna give it away. (sound familiar ?) I guess for now I'll keep it, at least till gas hits 6-7 dollars a gallon ! (LOL) BTW...I'm on "E" and have to fill 'er up in the morning. Let's see that's 35 Gallons times $4...OUCH OUCH OUCH !!!

I recently test drove a Patriot with the wife. She liked it and was interested so we asked the dealer how much we could get on trade for an 2007 Ford Fusion with 1300 yes 1300 miles on it .. Vehicle was 21000 new last year he offered 12k on trade for it for a new 07 Patriot same on an 08 I said wait a minute an 07 Patriot will be worth about 14k as soon as I drive it off the lot the 09 versions are due out soon and I get some shuck and jive bS So no pat for me. I dont mind the dealer making some cash but Im not putting 2 generations thru college:mad:
keep your fusion, you'll loose lots of money otherwise

Sell your current vehicle yourself - price it right and you'll sell it quickly & for much more than what the dealer will give you. They wanted to give me $1,200 for my wife's '02 Town & Country van when I was shopping for a Patriot. I bought the Pat on a Saturday, cleaned the van on Sunday, placed the newspaper ad on Monday for Tuesday's paper, and sold it for $5,650 two days later. Blue Book was $7K retail, trade-in was just under $5K, so I priced it in the middle at $5,850 and knocked off a couple hundred to seal the deal.

Should have bought the Patriot the first time & you would not
have to worry about the Mexican assembled Fusion now.
(its all printed on the window sticker)

Time is on your dealers side too, every MONTH you linger
your Ford takes more of a hit$.

I'd stay the course with the Fusion
AND buy a Patriot too. buy a stripped one if money is a issue.

as much as i like my Pat ..even on its 3rd tranny ...Chrysler is operationally bankrupt ...nobody is looking to make a deal at this point .. they want full price to make the most money , because its their well being over yours. its a shame ..and as a multi generational Mopar owner ..it hurts , but its the truth .

FWIW, the car previous to my Patriot was 1997 Ford escort station wagon. I was seriously dismayed when I discovered the Escort was assembled in Mexico. Was anything going to even fit right?

Well, my stepson has the Escort now. It is running like a top at over 290,000km. It is still on the original clutch. I didn't change the battery until the 10th year. It has a new fuel pump, courtesy of sticky gas additives in Shell gas rather than Ford. I finally relented and figured I best change the timing belt at 200,000km - a full 100,000 past the belt's service life. At 200,000 the wife and I went from Toronto to Branson, MO, to Memphis TN, to Nashville TN, to Cleveland OH and back to Toronto. The AC worked flawlessly until summer of 07. It just never breaks down. Suffice it to say, don't sweat a Fusion assembled in Mexico.

Even Ford has to get lucky with a vehicle from time-to-time.
I'm not one to say Ford vehicles last forever but Ive seen an escort take a beating I also see alot of aerostars and they stopped making those almost 15 years ago.
The Ford Tempo is the best because that'll rust down to nothing before it dies.

I've had over 200k miles on a dodge neon and a toyota corolla so I hope that the Pat can hold up to my abuse personally.. I'll post in about 6 more years to tell everyone how it holds up.
