I've been searching around these forums, but I can't seem to find this info.

I want to convert my manual locks to power locks, and I thought having an alarm installed could take care of this, plus I get an alarm. When I called an alarm install place, they told me they would have to take the door panel off just to even tell me if it were possible because he didn't know if the '08 Patriot had cable locks or not.

I read Cork's thread about installing his power locks, so I am assuming it is possible, and probable that the Pat has the rod locks.

So, now to the question, assuming it is possible to install the actuators, how much should I be expecting to pay for an alarm, 5 actuators (gate as well, hopefully), and the installation?

I know it will depend on which system I end up going with, but I just need a ballpark figure so I can know if I'm getting ripped off.

When it comes to vehicles, I never know who I can trust... I'm a Geek, not a Gear Head. I'm so glad I found this place, though. Now I have a place to ask these questions.:D
Thanks for the help.

Edit: I think I put this in the wrong sub forum.

The pats have the rod locks.

For the lock actuators don't pay more then $20 per actuator.

As for the alarm I can't tell you the price because it depends on the system you get. If I were to take a guess I would say the locks with a reasonable/respectable alarm, plus labour, you're looking to spending anywhere between $400-$600. The killer is the labour on the actuators. They have to take apart each door, install the actuators, and then put the door panels back on. At least 15-30 minutes per door.

Well I've seen several kits online (looked at the idea myself) and I found that you can get a 4 door kit, with remote and alarm, and the reinforced liftgate kit, was somehwhere in the ballpark of $200. Id say that it would be a very time consuming job. Not difficult, but just removing the door panels is a pain in the @$$. They will end up charging you for 3-4 hours if not more. If you just plug in how much you think they will charge per hour (dealers $100+, smaller shops less) then you can get an idea. Sorry its a very educated guess but still not that close. It all really depends on the shop you take it to, and whether they are morons or magicians. Try to stay away from the dealer, they overcharge and most are glorified jiffy lube guys.

Hope this helped a lil!

heh you posted yours while I was in the middle of typing mine. Our figures seem to be pretty similar.

$200 for materials plus $300-$400 for labor.

I've already purchased all of the hardware (lock kits for all 4 doors and liftgate, power windows kit for all 4 doors, all the lock and window buttons, and alarm with keyless entry etc etc) and I paid around $340 for it all. I plan on installing it all myself but out of curiosity I asked a local shop here how much they would charge to install it all and they quoted me $750 just for the install. I will defintely be doing it all myself.

Wow, thanks for all the info.

I was expecting on paying at least $200 on all the parts, just had no idea about how much the installation would be. Hopefully my spring bonus is good!

Now I at least know what to ask for when I call back for a quote. :)

Just out of curiosity, are all lock kits universal, or should I be looking for something specific?

My local dealership quoted me a total of $455 for the alarm (Code Master) and all 4 door actuators (parts plus labor). I don't know if that was a good deal or not.

Basically, he broke it down to:
$245 = Alarm and Driver Side Actuator
$70 for each additional door (3 x 70 =$210)
Prices included the labor.

I just went with the Alarm and driver side for now, and told me to come back whenever I like, and he'll do the $70 each for the remaining doors.

They are all universal from what I've seen but they do include vehicle specific install locations and directions for some makes/models (not any jeeps). I have been told by several shops that Spal is the best brand name to buy for aftermarket windows/locks so that is what I went with. Just make sure that when you order them you order exacly what you want. From what I found the switches are not part of the actual kits and if you want doors switches you have to order those seperately. Without the the car basically locks unlocks all doors when any one door is unlocked. I don't remember on the windows but I got the driver side that has all window controls, disable button and power ock button and then one of each for each door. I can give you the part numbers and what I ordered if you are interested. I am going to try and start the install today so I will have more details once I'm done.

That doesn't sound bad if they are using good parts. Any idea what alarm and lock parts they are using?

Ok, I just got a quote from an alarm place called Mother's Window Tint and Alarm and they said they install actuators for $75 a door (parts and labor included) and whatever alarm system I choose comes with installation. Their alarms start at $199. So, the total would be about $600.
$375 (5 actuators @ $75 ea.)
+ $200 alarm (estimate)

That seems like an Ok price, right?
It seems like a little more than what Tuksonrider was quoted, but this place is pretty well known here in San Antonio. They seem like the biggest alarm dealer here, so I might go with them.

too late?

Maybe too late but I've got mine scheduled at Circuit City. (I'm a huge audionut and would be kicked off some other forums for going to CC) I trust the head installer, anyway

CC charges

$30.99 per actuator (I bought all 4 doors on Ebay for $51 shipped)

$30.99 Hatch Actuator (Again Ebay, but I got the stronger actuator for $31 Shipped)

$70 per pair Labor ($70+$70+$35) $175

$99 Python Alarm

$99 Alarm Install

I'm paying about $400 +$82 for actuators

If CC did it all, including selling actuators around $560

I've done the install B4 and it is worth it for me to pay for it... Not hard but time consuming and, at least for me, Frustrating as hell.

Hope this helps

Wow, that sounds good too bradchuck2.

i didn't really want to even look at CC or Bestbuy because... you know, street cred. :Kidding:

But after hearing that I might give them a call.
So they will install actuators that you didn't buy from them?
If so, that might be handy.

I get my spring bonus tomorrow, so you definitely caught me just in time.
Thanks for the info.

Yeah that is a pretty good price. I don't trust anyone to touch any of my vehicles but for that money it is defintely worth it to save yourself the time and headaches of the install. It's all very simple stuff to do but very time consuming.

just paid around $240 for 5 actuators & Pharaoh alarm system, and 12 hrs installation...ja!

i have an alarm shop in tijuana and right now im installing an alarm on a 2008 jeep patriot, the jeep patriot doesnt have cable locks, and tough if it had cable locks they can be installed to, the price i give with the pair of locks for front doors with the alarm is 120 dlls installed with 5 year warranty, if you need directions for how to tear apart the door for the actuator i can send you pics.

Ok, I work at a Best Buy and am doing this currently to my patriot (if you havent done it already). Any alarm/remote start you buy it comes with the installation included in the purchase price. I recomend viper, i got the 5701. it has alarm, remote start, and can control the locks. My patriot also needed a bypass for the remote start which is about 100. P.S, they had a really hard time programming the bypass, I actually had a guy from my dealership program it. They also sell the actuators for about 20 dollars a piece. The patriot has cable style locks so you need the adaptors. I got 3 pairs (needed 5, plan on doing back door)for about 40 bucks off ebay. they charge 70 bucks a door for labor. The entire door panel doesn't actually need to come off. The plastic piece around the crank (if you have manual windows like me) comes off and you can get to it from there. The whole door panel doesnt come off, if they took out all the bolts the window would fall out. Now I am having the installer do this for me, because i'm not that mechanically inclined, so everything i am telling you i have learned from talking with him, so if i am wrong i appologize. But as far as I know its all correct
