Question on the NAV radio

Hello,

I saw the navigation radio in a limited in person here in New Jersey and it looks really good. One question I can't seem to get a good solid answer on is, does this radio have a video input at the rear of the unit? The standard answer seems to be no because the patriot does not have a backup camera option. My thinking is that if this same radio is used on other vehicles that do offer a backup camera than the radio will have the input for it even though the camera itself is not offered. This is a deal breaker for me to spend the $1300 bucks or not for this unit.

Thank you,
Joe

Couldn't tell you for sure, but the dealer told me this is the identical unit to what they use in all Jeeps and many other Daimler-Chrysler vehicles so if they have the video input I would be my left pinky they this one does too (I'm not 100% on that so I bet my little finger because it isn't that useful anyways) But if that is a deal breaker I wouldn't get it upfront you can always grab one off ebay later for the same 1300$ (even though the dealer will tell you its 2200 aftermarket) and a new center console panel runs another 47$ that way you can check with the seller of the specific unit to be sure.

Nav System

Went to Jeep lot today. They had a patriot, no nav.

But that same unit (3 knobs-no touch screen) is in the Commander, with the Uconnect in the rear view mirror.

I WOULD PREFER THE MyGig that is in the Wrangler Unlimited and the Nitro and Sebring and other new products.

It has the external jack on the front face, Uconnect and is TOUCH screen and the screen flips open for the CD.

That 3-knob one was awful to use in the Commmander, but would live with it.

Wonder if that change will happen soon. or can I buy one and have it fit in same spot?

NEVER MIND, I GUESS THIS ANSWERS MY QUESTION!!!!!!!!!!
JUST FOUND THIS!
WON'T EVEN BE ABLE TO GET IT IF I WAIT TO SPEC OUT an '08 Model

MyGIG will be available in the following vehicles starting with the 2009 model year: (partial list)

2009 Dodge Ram
2009 Dodge Viper
2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser

MyGIG is not compatible with the following vehicles:

All 2006 and prior models

All 2007 models except Wrangler, Nitro, Sebring and Avenger

The following 2008 models:
Chrysler Pacifica
Chrysler PT Cruiser
Dodge Caliber
Dodge Ram
Dodge Viper
Jeep Compass
Jeep Patriot

- Yeah, see the Patriot listed at the end!

This might even be a deal killer, would hate to get the Nitro instead.

Chrysler, READ THIS!!!!!!!

I see that with the Patriot nav system one can not play tapes, mp2, cd's, dvds, etc. The DVD slot is only for the map data base DVDs.

However, it DOES come with an AM/FM radio, so I guess one could use something like this:

Also, you can get an optional 115 volt outlet with the Patriot to make it easier to use a tape player, etc......

Does the Patriot nav require you to be in park before inputting an address, or can you do it as you are driving?
Am not positive about this, but if you watch the demo on the Jeep Commander site mentioned above, I think that was one of the questions in the FAQs. It seemed to suggest that you had to be stopped, But it did not mention if it could be set to override.

I just purchased a Limited 4x4 with navigation last week. You do have to be stopped (but not in park) to program an address, but there is a limited programming option that can be used while in motion. If you have addresses already in the system you can select those. I will post pictures of my navigation system once my camera batteries are charged!
