Hello to everyone. New to the board and happy to meet all!

We bought our Patriot this weekend after a painful search for a more responsible family ride to replace our much loved 2007 Hemi Ram Quad Cab1500 that we had customized and modded out to a whopping 10.9 MPG. With the rising fuel prices and the shift in the market we knew our days were dwindling of being able to actually trade in our beloved "Detonator" on something that gave us more fuel economy. So we jumped on the $2.99 gas card bandwagon and visted our local dealership.

After 14 years of marriage we bought our first responsible vehicle- our 08 Patriot Limited.

We have always owned alot of cars...but rarely have we owned one that couldn't do the quarter mile in less than 15 seconds. So this little guy is going to be a whole new world for us. We were drawn to the car for its spaciousness and amenities...and lets face it- if we could get 20 MPG we are getting twice what we were getting in the truck and that thrilled us. Dollar for Dollar...there is not a better buy out there.

The performance is something we are going to have to get used to -making sure we have plenty of room before we pull out in front of another car. No more hail Mary "Floor It!" out if this baby...so we are forced to drive like normal people when we are behind the wheel of our Patriot. (We'll save the Hail Marys for our other rides...)

We are looking forward to customizing and modding our Jeep (but not too much...we want to keep the MPG as high as possible) and most of all we are looking forward to that first fill up...

We are happy to meet all of you and glad to be a part of the group!

I'll have some pics to share tomorrow.

Gonna give it a nice bath first.

Thanks for the Welcome!

Sellout, "that first fillup" that you're anticipating will come quickly. Patriot's endurance is poor due to it's very small gas tank. Other than that and a couple other issues, it's a great car, and I love mine. Welcome and keep on posting!

Welcome, and as a former 'muscle car' owner (L82 Vette, Trans Am (X2), Camaro IROC-Z, Duster 340), I can empathize. However, I DO love my Patster as it fits my lifestyle now (read: getting older) and my budget...in otherwords, it's a car for these times. It's good to know that you've still got the Stang & the Vette when you 'feel the need for speed'! Is the Stang a manual? I was considering an 06' Stang GT w/the 5 speed, leather, 'My Colors' pkg, & 18" rims in the 'Marine Blue' color before I came to my senses & got the Pat. Still, there's nothing like the sound of a Stang GT w/'Flowmasters' goin' thru the gears!!! :Racing:

First, welcome to the JeepPatriot.com forum. You're going to enjoy your stay here.

Sellout, in your post, your story about the RAM1500 reads just like mine. We had an 04, Red, 1500 Quad Cab, modified with a FlowMaster dual exhaust system, (Yes, it has a HEMI in it!), grille bling, tonneau cover, etc. BART (Big A$$ Red Truck) was a sweet ride... Just couldn't see keeping it with the price of gas and the low MPG it was getting, so on March 15th, we traded it for a 2008 Jeep Compass (Surf Blue Pearl) to park next to my 2008 Jeep Patriot (Sun Burst Orange). The Compass is the wife's daily driver, as was BART. She cried when we did the trade, but she's happier now with the extra cash in her pocket. I still can't show her pictures of BART without her getting upset! She really enjoyed her truck....

Welcome sellout.

We, like you, are still getting over the loss of our beloved v8. We are only 2 days in on our Patriot, I had to pry my wife's fingers fromthe wheel of her '04 Mercury Marauder, but our big car, Horrible MPG, premium fuel buying days are over. This car just makes more sense.[She still has her Camaro SS in the garage,if she's jonesin' for speed!!]

Good Luck and welcome to reality!!!

I too am in the same boat or in this case Jeep... I traded off one of Americas worst gas hogs the Dodge Durango. I was averaging 10-12 MPG. One of the things I did to help was turned getting better gas mileage into a competition to see how good I could get it. That got old after a while and I just drive now and am still amazed it can be so good for everything I have done to mine. So mod away... you'll still have better than 20mpg with the CVT and I know I get 24-26 with my 5 Speed.

If you do turn a green thumb and try to get the best possible mileage you may want to search the internet for "hypermiling" or HyperMiler".

Good luck and enjoy your 'riot.

heck my avalanche has an 8.1 496 cubin inches and use that for towing only now that we have the patriot and the gas bill for a week is what my av would take in one tank so overall the pat has been a blessing and they are great ride i love my 07!

My Stang is a V6...but a modded out beauty that does the Quarter in the mid 14's We routinely beat 04 and under GTs @ the track much to the chagrin of the owners when they find out we are just a 'lil ol V6". It has all the available options except Vert top and V8. This summer we are adding Squires rear mounted turbo system and are expecting high 12's to low 13's...only time will tell. My Mustang is my favorite object in this world...:Racing:

We started out with Camaros and have owned many. My first was an 85 IROC, and we added several after that - slowly turning to Corvettes and throwing in a Trans Am here and there. Cars are pretty much our business (we own a speed shop) and have been a source of enjoyment since we got married.

We are looking forward to "getting started" on the Patriot. Is that 20's you have on your ride? We were talking about 20's but it didn't look like we could go that large...if so then GREAT!:hammertime:

Thanks to everyone for the Warm welcome. It is comforting to know that we are not alone in missing our truck. It is going to be an adjustment for us but you guys are right...this car makes sense for us right now. We are now looking to the future and making the most out of it...

Sellout, it sounds like you've got yourself quite a sleeper w/the Stang. Even the V8-equipped versions aren't capable of much better than low to mid 14's. It must be your lightning-shift left foot / right hand combo that knocks the ball out of the park! When you get your turbo installed, you'll have to audition for the show 'Pinks' and prepare to build a bigger shop to store all the spoils of victory (lol).

My rims are 19-inchers. I originally wanted 18's, but this was the smallest diameter these MRR's came in. I had the tire size matched as close as possible to the stock height of the factory 17's to maintain speedometer accuracy. I've had custom rims on every vehicle I've owned, as it's one of the easiest ways to personalize one's ryde. Anyhoos, n'joy the summer & your new Pat. :blah:
