:(so i got rear ended today and it sucks. i was stopped in traffic and a Toyota highlander ran into me. the good news is all that happened to my pat was some swapped paint and scratches to the bumper and some small dents on the lift gate (it still opens with no problems). on the other hand, the toy’s whole front end was destroyed. the hood was bent up, bumper cover almost off, grill smashed, and front quarter panels bent too. poor toy.
The good news is, now when they fix the bumper cover I can order the one with the tow hook cut out.

And hopefully, all at the Highlander's expense!! Woohoo!!:smiley_thumbs_up:

Sorry to hear about being RE'd. No one injured I hope?

no one was hurt.
just a little more info. i was stoped and the toyota was going about 15 mph. i also have the lift in the jeep that i think help keep the damage mostly on the bumper

I'm glad to hear that no one was hurt...AND I'm glad to hear that the Patriot held up like a tank! This is the second post in recent months of a rear-ending, and the Patriot held up very well while the other car suffered extensive damage...

With this in mind, as well as, silvermike's unfortunate run-in's with animals...it's very clear that the Patriot is built very well!!!

Thanks for sharing your unfortunate experience...it does make me feel much safer knowing that we have a vehicle that will hold up in the thick and thin.

I too am glad nobody was hurt. Patriots are tough but just because there is only a little exterior damage does not mean you escaped mechanical damage. If the hit was at 15mph you will have some bent metal at the bumper mounts. If the hit was any harder the Toyota's airbags would've gone off.

Wow, I'm glad you weren't injured and glad the Patriot was tough! Now about the tow hooks, as they say..."When life hands you a lemon, make lemonade!" Good going.
Years ago I had a 1975 Toyota Corolla wagon that was parked in NYC next to Saint Patrick's Cathedral. at 3am a speeding limo smashed through the parked cars and my Toy got knocked up off the street and onto the wall of the cathedral. They almost said it was a total, but I had it fixed. We drove it for 12 more years! It had a little whine in the differential, but ran great. Congrats, I'm sure your baby will do just as well.

Glad that no one was injured... other than the Toy owner's pride.

Great way to look at the positive side of it! If you buy the tow hook before getting it fixed you might be able to get them to put it on too for cheap.

I agree the design of the Patriot with the rubberized bumper covers may conceal damage to the superstructure of the vehicle. However, since it isn't visible at the scene it sure makes the Jeep look good! :smiley_thumbs_up: As a long time Jeep owner, I have to admit, toughness was not something I ever expected from this particular Jeep.

Obviously, glad no one was hurt. Joking about damage is only fun if no one is hurt.

The reason for the massive damage to the Toyota likely has to do with the Toyo being in full brake dive, so the grill took the impact (not the bumper, which would have lessened the visible damage. That means the softer bits on the Toyo were absolutely demolished, preventing greater damage to the Jeep.

I was rear ended by a full size truck a few months ago and had bumper to bumper contact. The repair bill was rather sizeable since they had to replace a major structural member back there.

You definitely want to get the underside checked out. A buddy was rear ended a few years back. bumper bounced back but did extensive damage to the absorption mechanism beyond the rubberized bumper. Get it looked at fer sure.

I wouldn't be too hard on the Toyota folks. It sounds like all the crumple zones that were designed into the Toy worked is all. Better to have crumpled zones than crumpled people. I wonder if the reverse would be true and the Toy's back end would survive but the Pat's front end would crumple. I don't wanna find out mind you.

That sucks that you got rear ended but good to hear the positive outlook on the bumper. I have a similar story to quasimodem51. One of my buddies got bumped ever so slightly on his driver side door as an innocent bystander in a wreck. No visible damage was done to his car so he told them not to worry about it. A few days later when he was driving and hit a pot hole his door fell off. Evidently that little bump from the accident caused a hairline fracture in his hinges and after a little use caused them to break. Hopefully nothing serious comes from the accident, but I wouldnt take the chance, I would get it checked out. Just my two cents.

The insurance company is sending an appraiser to look at the damage tomorrow. I’ll let you guys know what he thinks could be wrong with my pat and, how much $$ he thinks it will cost to fix it too.

Did you come out holding your neck??? Also, tell them at work you were in an accident and have the person who hit you pay for your salary because you can't work.

Please don't do this...I am just kiddin'!!!

you said it Didnt damage the rear bumper? I was on the freeway the other day and saw a pat and it looked like he hit something because the passenger corner of the rear bumper was completely gone. What scared me was that it literally look as if the bumper was just a plastic shell I didnt see any support.
It kind of made me nervous and hope I wasnt going to get rear ended ever.

you guys are lucky, the caliber has a very fragile front bumper, I rubbed my front bumper against an ice pile in the winter while backing out of a parking isle around illegally parked cars and it cracked right up and the foglight is garbage too, mind you i hit the only spot that doesnt flex on the corner of the bumper and it was -20*C out that day too...but still glad to know the patriot holds its own.
