Hey folks only had my 2014 Patriot 1 week but I am installing a Gentex Auto Dimming mirror and need a 12v switched Source, thinking of just tapping into the sunroof power source switch near the inter lights switch as it is easy to get to, but I still need to run a ground wire somewhere..

Any 12v switch source in the cab easy to get to? Seems like a vague question I just don't want to go through the firewall yet if there is another option without ripping everything apart

I'm on the same page here. I have a '13 and desperately (its actually kind of sad) need another power outlet that's always on w/o leaving keys in.

Are there any wires in the cab that are already there for the inverter, even if you don't have one? (P.S. I'd start there for switches ground, maybe?)

I was able to find a switched power source at the lighter.. (cigarette lighter)

Sorry infinite.chris, but there's no usable un-switched +12V power source inside the Jeep cab... when you install a remote start module by example, you need to run a power wire directly to the battery terminal or onto the TIPM module, but the TIPM is located like 3 inch from the battery, so I prefer to use the battery in this case!

I install myself a power outlet (unswitched) in my Jeep's trunk a few weeks ago for my 12V cooler but I use my huge 6-gage (40 AMP) trailer brake circuit to hook up my 12V outlet onto.

I'm agree with you, the factory 12V outlet are useless because they are switched!!! In my Chevy Cobalt all factory 12V outlet (3) are unswitched from factory! That's very nice! :)

NB: The TIPM is for "TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE" and this module is located on driver's side on the fender inside the hood... at 3-4 inch from the battery!

Bonkers. I always I could pull or buy the kit from a 110v equipped Riot sans the inverter and cannibalize it for 15a source. How odd that there's a dead spot for "POWER PORT" in the fuse box, but no unswitched 12v if what you say is true.

Not sure to understand what you mean about the 110v inverter, but I have the factory 110v inverter in mine and the inverter is also a SWITCHED device!

I do not experience myself on installing a remote start or alarm, but on every specific installation guide for Compass/Patriot I found, they all stated you must ran a wire directly to the battery for the un-switched 12V power... I also check on the famous "Bulldog Security" website and they also say you need to ran a wire to the battery or use the TIPM module but it's useless...

I'm gonna install my remote start in a few weeks before the winter so I'm gonna be able to confirm this information, but honestly I think it's true.

In fact there's no dedicated switched power source neither in the fuse box, but when I replace my factory radio for an aftermarket, I just hook it up to the cigarette lighter and voila! The 60-80$ radio interface is a scam, i just provide the missing switched circuit when the cigarette lighter switched circuit is just 2 inch below the radio! The cigarette lighter circuit is also R.A.P. enabled, so my aftermarket radio work as the factory radio without any lost of feature!

In my Chevy Cobalt there's no switched source for the radio neither and the cigarette lighter is un-switched as I said, so I hook my radio switched wire onto the windshield wiper circuit (switched and also R.A.P. enabled) and voila! I also save on the 60-80$ radio interface and I even have the RAP feature.

Very awesome stuff! I think what I'm talking about is fuse position 13 (or is it 15??) I believe is 15a and when in alternate position isn't switched?

Else, I'll just run some 4ga and call it a day :)
