What are buyers being quoted on extended warranties for Patriots? Is it from Jeep/DC, the dealers, or Third Party companies? What is included and excluded? Does coverage percentage drop as it ages, or stay full? Any other thoughts welcome. (Might be more of an issue than usual since this is the first year of this model, Jeep's first front wheel drive, has a relatively new-style transmission, and only comes with a standard 3-year warranty.)

Try to steer clear of the 3rd party warranties... I've never had good luck with them when trying to file a claim.

On my current liberty, I have a DaimlerChrysler service contract that took the coverage to 6 years / 50,000 miles from the original date of purchase. All selected (purchased) coverage remains in effect from the time you purcahse the warranty until the contract experation. There was no sneaky business with the DCX extended warranty.

When I bought mine they offered different brackets of coverage:

1) Engine / Driveline [mechanically only]
2) Engine / Driveline + essential electronics including some interior parts like the HVAC, Insturmentation, etc.
3) Einge / Driveline + all electronics

You can select your appropriate threshold when you sign for your Pat Riot. I went with bracket number 2 and had to use the warranty 2 times. The cost out of my pocket each time was $100.00 then the rest was covered under the warranty. I had the Insturment cluster replaced and also a new Transfer Case so in my particular case the extra money up front was well worth it in the end.

Note* One time the warranty did not help - my seat heater element died and that I had to cover out of pocket but I didn't mind. (Can't live without seat heaters!)

really...

im going to lease my Pat (for write-off purposes), but i wanted to lower my payments by maybe adding an extra year warranty. i want more peace of mind for my term. dealer said id be like an extra $750 for adding a year.

A couple years ago, I bought an extended warranty over at my credit union on a little car. I paid about 40% the price that the dealer was quoting me at the time.

Like everything, if you want one, shop around to get the best deal possible.
