I wanted to see if I could actually tint the windows myself, rather than paying a shop to do it. I decided to use the Partriot (the family car) as a "guinea pig" before doing my Camaro...what can I say, I like that car a lot more...

I'm pretty happy with the results. I went with 5% in rear and 35% in front. I'm hoping it helps cool the back seat a little bit for our baby. I think it was getting hot back there; he was sweating :(

The front looks darker in the picture than they do in person. Overall, I think it improved the looks of the vehicle. To me, un-tinted windows cheapens the look of any car.

The rear cargo windows weren't bad at all since there really wasn't any seals to contend with. The doors on the other hand were a bit of a pain because the seals on the sides of the Jeep windows are extremely tight! I sucked. The bottom seal was okay, but the sides were pretty tight to get around.

In any event, it gave me the confidence to try to do the camaro myself. Still debating on going with 20% or 35% on the camaro side windows. I don't want to attract any unwanted attention from our "friends" in the PD.

Looks good. Give it a week see how the brand of tint you used holds up. If it does go for the camaro because the tint looks great. Front is pretty dark for 35. Good job.

Was the film pre cut? Did you have to use a hair dryer to get it to form to the windows?
Yes it was pre-cut. I bought 2-ply, 1.5mm film off Ebay for like $30. I didn't do the back hatch window yet. That needs to be shrunk. The other windows do not need to be shrunk with a heat gun since they are straight up and down. The back hatch needs to be shrunk with a heat gun. Lowes has them for like $30 too. I'm heading out of town today for a wedding so I will do it when I return. I think I should be ok if I get the heat gun. Everything I read online says the hair dryers are not nearly hot enough to do the job right, so I will just suck it up and buy it since it's only $30 and I'm doing the camaro next.

Looking great, here in israel the Patriot comes with pre tinted windows from the dealer
i guess because its hot country and also the dealer should prove why to buy that vehicle here that cost 50K us dollar
so they put some extra things

I did my own tint also ,the pre cut is so simple to put on, turns out really good! your tint looks great Ski rush!! and it will most definitely cool things. It is a must in my opinion!

yeah it basically does, you just have to make sure your windows are very clean and the tint stays wet! use dish soap and water in a spray bottle and spray to extremes!!!

Looks like you did a good job. I am surprisaed 35% tint is allowed. That is way over what you can use here. Is 35% the legal max for your state or can you go darker?

I'm in PA. Law here says if you have an SUV or van, the dark can be as dark as you want. I went 10%, wish I went 5 or 2.5%. The fronts can't be tinted at all...which is why I went with 35%. I see people with much darker front windows than mine. Hopefully I'll be ok. The fronts really do look lighter in person than in the pics.

You mean to tell me a Jeep patriot costs $50,000 US in Israel? :wow:

I have had 20% on multiple vehicles in PA. My RAM has 35% since I tow and like to see the trailer at night. The Jeep has 20% though, my WK and T&C did also.

Good job. Most people will F this up, honestly. Will leave bubbles, and folded up sections on it, causing it to peel.

My Latitude came with the factory tints in the rear, so I only had to do the front. Had a shop do it for practically nothing. Used a good quality brand, and I have a lifetime warranty (the shop has been around for nearly 10 years).

Warranties - why I don't do things myself.
