IT's COMPASS, not "CompUss"....

.....and another couple reasons i'm glad i bought the Compass over the Patriot;

1) my dome light didn't come with the 'water fall' option :hammertime:

2) my hood does NOT flap.....:dead_horse:

i've gotten 7,500 miles without a single issue. :D

I think the Compass is higher and wider than the Patriot but they say the Pat has better interior space.
Per the Jeep brochures the Compass is about an inch wider and the Patriot is about an inch taller. The Patriot has a little more interior space measurement because of the extra inch in height of the roof. All the other interior measurements such as leg room, shoulder room, etc. are identical.

Compass owner here..

What it comes down to is that the Compass doesn't look like a Jeepy station wagon like all the Patsy owners adore. Thats okay. I've never liked the look of the Patriot, Wranglers or grand Cherokees. I liked the Compass because it was exactly what I was looking for at price point way less then similar cars. For me, it didn't matter what the name plate was. I liked the car. I own one in black. In my opinion, black is the only color a compass should be caught dead in :)

When the Compass came out, I decided to wait for the Patriot. The Patriot just looked more like a Jeep from the illustrations. I did get a chance to ride in a neighbor's Compass after he accidentally wiped out my mailbox, but that's another story! I felt the compass drove OK, but seemed a bit cramped in the cockpit, I think it was the door area that seemed a bit closed in. My wife didn't like the looks of the Compass at all. I eventually bought an 08 Patriot, details are in my signature, and never looked back. Love that Jeep!

mine is Khaki.....as far as being 'caught dead', did you mean a Compass or a Compass 'owner'? i for one hope my Compass is NEVER 'caught dead'...i'll be so disappointed. :(

now i know why i joined this site....oh wait... no i dont. this is the most BS thread in the world. patriot vs compass? should read sheet metal vs sheet metal. both vehicles are the same minus sheet metal. honestly they both drive the same, both have the same mechanics (minus fdII with added programing). interior layout is also the same.

pat owners need to grow up!

It is an illusion- all the interior dimensions except for head room are identical.
Yep, in the center that is. It IS a little more cramped getting in because of the way the door sills/top/etc were designed.
That was what caused me to hit my head on the darned door sill just getting into the Comp. The more rounded look is a nice contrast to the Pat, but it causes taller people to have to bend down a little bit farther to get in (not a lot, but enough that it made me change my mind on which one to buy).

I should qualify that "taller" with old and fat too (for ME anyway). Those attributes are the reason getting into a car seem like important qualities when buying a new one.

Ahh..opinions are like *ssholes, aren't they? Everyone has one but usually doesn't need another. (old quote I learned years ago)

This is all friendly dialogue here. Really, if it bothers you to the point of telling everyone to grow up (not to mention calling it a BS thread), perchance you might want to just NOT read anymore of it instead of biting about it?

Let 'em rant. (I ranted too, BTW) Remember the stats (height, wheelbase, etc) are one thing, but the PERCEPTION of those -once in the car- are what we are writing about here. All we're doing here is stating how we think the car feels to each of us.
Peace.

Randoo,

Very well spoken. If the Thread bothers you that much, don't read it.

Well said... It makes me laugh when people say they liked how roomy the Patsy is compared to the Compass. :blah: They are just trying to justify their purchase.

liftedMK, its the nature of the beast... or I mean humanity. You can't get around it. Its all about who likes what and why. Personally I like them both, however I like the 'Riot more due to its nostalgic similarities of the Cherokee.

Patriot for me as I only looked at it for the replacement(updated version) of my Cherokee!
I also tested a Commander for 4 days and decided to go for the more fuel efficiant..........
To me, comparing this to a Compass is like asking if one prefers a CARHART JACKET or a SPORT JACKET or Do I wear BOOTS or SHOES most of the time............All depends if I need to where a TIE.:) I suppose that would answer the philosophstyle question. :confused:Anyway, does that sound practical enough?
