I wanted to know if anyone considered getting the Compass over the Patriot. And the reason they went with the patriot.

Me,

I never even considered it. I saw the early commercials for the Pat in the hospital while my wife was giving birth to our Son.

At the time I owned a 99 wrangler, and I was thinking to myself I need a more family friendly car, when low and behold the commercial appeared!

well a month later we were down at the dealership to pick one up. For a brief second I glanced over the Compass with my wife and asked her opinion. She said It looks like an egg... I like the other one better, and that was that!

My wife was just the reverse. She likes the Compass styling better. She has a Compass. I have a Patriot. The body style is the real difference. The FD2 drive system is only available on the Patriot.

I prefer the Patriot styling, but bought a Compass. $2k cheaper, that's the only reason. Seems I've sold my soul for what a coworker claims should have a rainbow sticker on the back. I'm secure enough to not care. Actually, I do like the Compass's 18" wheels for on-road feel, but I've never driven a Patriot to compare.

FDII makes Patriot mechanicaly unique. Oherwise, they almost identical. One could argue the rear cargo area is larger on the Patriot, but only for tall cargo as the floor is the same.

Test Drove a Compass at the Carlisle All Chrysler Nationals and I was very pleased with the feel of it for it's price. I went to my dealership a few weeks later hoping to find a compass Rallye, but saw a Patriot limited instead. I thought the regular Compass was a bit too rounded and feminine for my taste, but if they had a Rallye (I remember seeing one there a few weeks earlier) I'd be driving that now instead of the Patriot!

I thought about the compass, but only because I am stationed in Germany and it was available damn near 1 year before the Patriot was shipped to us... Luckily they got this one silver 5spd 4x4 in just in time for my purchase... but if they were both sittin on a lot I would have never looked at the compuss (as you spelled it) over the Patriot.

I never glanced towards the compass. Look at the patriot in 2006 on the jeep website and "knew" it was what I was going to have. A few months later, we got rid of my wifes bmw and got the patriot. A year after that I got rid of my Wrangler and bought a Caliber

Just bought my second Jeep MK two weeks ago for the wife and she loves it. I got to drive t for the first time this past Wednesday and liked the way it handled. Acceleration was very responsive as well. Pretty much felt like I was driving my Patriot. So based on that, not a bad ride.... Yes, it does look like a girlie car, and that's okay...

COMPASS OWNER HERE!!!!:D

just want to stand up and be counted. we are "The Few, The Proud, The Compass Owners" ;)

seriously (no rainbow decals on mine, thank you very much!) when the Compass first came out i thought the same as most of you. but after a while it kind of grew on me (and no, not like a fungus!). when i decided i couldn't afford to drive my leased Unlimited 70+miles per day, i started looking at the Caliber and Compass because the Patriot hadn't been released. the only drawback of the Caliber is that i wanted either 4X4 or AWD and the only way to get AWD in the Caliber was an R/T. not a bad deal, but i wanted something more 'Jeepish' so decided to stay with, a JEEP.

then the release of the Patriot came i was all excited. ALSO as a past owner of a Cherokee, it brought back memories and i thought 'this is the Jeep for me'. BUT then when i checked into it, to get a 'base model' you would be stuck with VINYL SEATS and i hate them. so i chose the Compass 26D pkg, Yes Essentials seating, along with only a few options. i'm REALLY happy with my decision.

the only thing i would change now after driving mine for 5 months is that i think i would have preferred the 5sp manual 4X4 over the CVT. and well, if it were a 6sp? it wouldn't have even been a contest.....:icon_rolleyes:

compass vs patriot

We had decided on a patriot and went shopping for one. However we ended up choosing the compass over the patriot. The options we wanted were 4x4, sunroof and a manual transmission. Well we had pretty much given up on the sunroof with manual idea, hard combo to find. Fortunetly the dealer we went to had several 07 patriots and one 07 compass thast they were blowing out. The compass had sunroof, leather heated seats, 5 speed manual and was $8000 off MSRP. how could we say no. We traded our 07 wrangler unlimited for the compass. So, we went from the most capable jeep to the least capable in terms of offroad ability. However I am very happy with the compass and the look grows on you. The compass has more room than you thik as well, the area in front of the rear seats is very deep. It actually has more leg room than the 07 unlimited wrangler, but so does the patriot. Anyway its a great rig and I still have a 97 wrangler so I don't miss my unlimited to much, ok a little, but thats life. Felt to guilty driving the unlimited, it was a gas hog, For the highway the patriot and compass are much better.

i went to the dealership looking for a COMPASS, with no knowledge of the patriot at all...but then he was like a we got patriots in the back...and i was like what??? and when i saw them and i fell in love. the compass is lame compared to the pat and not jeepish at all.

sorry i love the color blue. like the steel blue pat.

When the Compass first came out, I was looking at one as a replacement for another small 4x4. By the time I was ready to buy, the Patriot had come out.
I thought it would make the decision hard until I saw a Patriot up close. To me, the Patriot looks like a squashed Cherokee. I test drove both and what do you know? They drove exactly the same.

So the decision to buy the Compass was purely based on the style. After 9K miles, I absolutely love the Compass. It has been absolutely trouble free and goes everywhere I want to go regardless of the weather!

I never got past the hatch on the Patriot- I am quite tall and the first thing I do when looking at vehicles is open the hatch and see if I hit my head on the opened hatch- I do on the Patriot:doh: and I don't on the Compass:notworthy:.

Plus over $6k off on the last 07 Compass they had helped.:D

I'm in the opposite boat as jpjeepguy. (although I don't like how low the hatch hangs down like jp says) However, the thing that sold me on my Pat was the fact that getting into the Compass was slightly harder as the door entrance seemed just a tad lower (body styling?) than the Pat and I kept hitting my head on the door frame just getting into it. (being 6'4" and 240# doesn't help matters either)
As with most of the other posters, the looks of the Patriot grew on me more and more, (over the Compass or Liberty).
I know this is going to sound cruel (please take it as strictly humor!) but the Compass looks like the designers took a wood model of the Patriot and went nuts with a sander and sanded off all the sharp edges...;)

No offence, but I think the Compass is ugly, and I don't picture myself paying big $ for a car that I don't like. I would've never considered it, even though it's a bit cheaper than the Patriot. Plus, it's gotten some bad reviews at car magazines here, while most Patriot reviews have been quite positive.

I like the Pat's styling a lot better. Good looks sell.
