Yes. There were/are issues with some units leaking when it rains. There are 3 notible defects that cause this.

1. Leaking due to lack of sealent at the rear, high center brake light.
2. Leak due to mishapen gaskets around doors.
3. Leak at firewall seam due to lack of sealent.

Those with the sunroof also reported leaks due to kinked/misrouting of drain tubes.

The "flapping hood" video on You-Tube caused some owners to panic. It is true that there were defects with some hinges and some owners did get them replaced under warranty precisely for that reason. Obviously the buffetting that was seen in the video link was out of tolerance, however some movement in the hinge assembly is perfectly acceptable due to it's clamshell design. Some owners who I won't name, believe that based on that video and the fact that the hood wasn't perfectly ridgid that they all were defective and should have been recalled.
Thank you!
I can see you are from Wisconsin,

Same things had happen in Europe?

I haven't noticed any leaking in my Patriot. But this it doesn't rain much where I live and in addition we've had a drier than normal winter. I agree, if Nebcarson says it doesn't leak, it has to be true.:smiley_thumbs_up:

bonnet flapped a bit a few weeks ago in the storms while driving but its still there....so....ok....i think.....

no leaking, no bonnet problem, no problem at all!!!!
Disagree. My Patriot's bonnet/hood has the flapping problem. I've only seen it happen once, but it was clearly flapping and shaking in a windy road. I think if I don't see it more often is because 99% of the time I'm alone in my car or there's no strong wind.

bi555 (why that alias?) get yourself a Patriot. You won't regret it. It has its issues, but overall it's a very good car with a proven and good engine (I mean the diesel). You'll be proud to own a car that is so uncommon in Europe. It's just different! Renaults, Toyotas, Fiats... bah, there are so many of them.

Maybe you wanna wait until this. You'll be happier with the car then. Many people complain about the interior design.

I don't know if that is only rumor or they really will redisign the interiors and eventually when they will be available in europe? The showrooms told me five months to order the Patriot Limited 2.0 in Green body and Beige interiors... they are crazy...

Now a friend of mine working in the auto sell market multibrands told me that the Audi's and VW engines 2.0 TDI have many problems (the last one built) He don't know that I'm looking for the Patriot which also have that engine...

I'm so scared... 25000 €uros are so much for me

I´ve read some posting in the past in VW forums about TDI malfunctions.
But i don´t worry.
You need to know that the TDI engines are build several million times. You find them in nearly any VW Golf,Passat,Touran and in some Audis aswell and not to forget SEAT and Skoda brands.
So while they are sold so often it´s not unusual you find thread about troubles somewhat more often.
The only thing i know you should check from time to time is oil consuming! There seems to be a wide spread about oilconsuming within 1000km from 0 up to 0.5L.

About the interior. Is no rumor. Chrysler announced it in January that they will upgrade the interior but no more informations are out yet.
I´m also waiting for the 2009 model...

Oil consuming is the exact problem my friend told me about.
I don' just understand if is it common to all 2.0 TDI engines or only someone suffer for oil consuming.

Chrysler talk about fall 2008 for the interiors... I think we will see them in 2009 (if Chrysler won't close before for Bankrupt...)

It will be only an improve in the material quality or the interiors will be completely redisigned? (for example to match LandRover interior beauty)

I hope they have the sense to keep the simple plastic interior and add an interior upgrade at additional cost. For those of us who want a utility vehicle the interior is just fine exactly how it is. My worry is that they will fancy up the interior to the point it becomes a maintenance headache.

My car has not used a drop of oil in nearly 3000 miles. I'm due for my first change soon.

my 2006 Caliber CRD (same diesel engine) consumed 1 litre oil the first 10.000 kms, and now (85.000 kms.) no oil consumption; my Patriot CRD also consumed 1 litre the first 10.000, I expect that the oilconsumption follows the Caliber

Heya, here's my stats.

- Finland
- Patriot Limited 2.4+CVT (petrol)
- One problem with the CVT (automatic transmission), which was fixed with a software update, other than that a very reliable and trustworthy car.
- City driving consumption is about 10 l/100km, on the freeway doing 80-100km/h speeds its about 7-8 l/100km. The consumption is easy to push to 15 l/100km or even higher if you keep flooring the pedal and passing cars, but it's quite easy to keep managed if you drive economically.

No water leaks, no flapping hood or any of the other issues widely discussed on this forum in the USA.

A-V, sure about the flapping hood? I didn't notice mine before I started to especially look for it, and even then it took some time.

My gas gauge did not work properly, sometimes with a cold car the needle would not climb up. They changed the entire unit with all the gauges in them. Unfortunately, it doesn't look the same as the old one, and I preferred the looks on the old one more... :(

By the by, my city driving has been around 10.5l/100km. Which begs the question, is it simply because Helsinki is a bigger city than Pori or is my foot simply heavier? :)

Patriot 2,0CRD Limited already 36,000km on Latvian roads...we call them roads:mad: Only regular maintenance and on 30,000Km some things in front suspention has been changed, I would say a reliable car:smiley_thumbs_up:

UK Patriot Silver 2.0lt Desil Limited.
only problem was the hose dropped out of the inter cooler and caused heavy smoking, but a 5 minute fix job.
Economy very good, average 40 to the gallon, on a long journey i've had as much as 48!

good comfort, great off road, and a great family car.
Don't expect too many frills this car is cheaper than it's competition, but in my view a better car for the money.

If you get one you'll not be dissapointed.

Have a glass of Amorone for me.....it's my favourite wine!

2008 CRD Diesel Sport
UK model in Silver

Average fuel consumption:-

Around town 30-36 mpg
Long haul 40-46mpg

Only problems I have had is it went in for new brake disc's at 1,300 miles this week with no problems from the dealer, other than that no other things so far.

My overall opinion is love it to bits best thing I have bought in a long time would advise anyone to a test drive.

Mines a glass of Valpolichela chow.:)

wrong drivers seat is my only problem in 16,000 miles. no height adjust. the dealer is ordering new one.

I think I'll go for Vino Nobile. Caio.(I only know how to spell it as i'm doing italian night class)!!!!
